Hi I am looking to buy a new receiver. I want to buy it from Costco. My two options are

1. Yamaha HTR-7065 - $499.99 - This model is similar to Rx v773WA w/o wifi adapter though

2. Sony STRDN1030 - $399

Any recc'd with which one I should get. I am going to use it for movies and TV 99% of the time, so the wifi connection does not matter so much. Worse case scenario, I can pull an ethernet cable to it. Please advice. Thanks.

Feature- and power-wise, they're similar.

Anecdotally, the Sonys tend to be much more buggy. I read about the occasional HDMI handshake issue or ARC problem with the Yamahas, but the Sonys have some strange quirks and I've seen a lot more returns of them due to their issues. The Yamahas also seem to have very few quality control problems. I rarely read about a new Yamaha on the fritz.

If they are both the same. I might go with the Sony. Its $80 cheaper. Since it comes from Costco. I have the option to return it down the line if it gives me problems. Main reason for going with Costco. My last recieved Onkyo SR606 started having HDMI problems. At time it would take 2-3 minutes for audio to start and then another 2-3 minutes for video to start through HDMI. Is this what a HDMI handshake problem is?

The Yamaha HTR series tends to come from Costco too. The HTRs are rebadged RX-Vs (so that they can't be price compared directly).

Sony does something similar with their Blu-ray players.
