I just got a new Panasonic ST60 TV and discovered my old Onkyo SR-876 doesn’t pass the 3D signal from the BMT-330 player to the TV. So after looking around I came up with three choices in my budget. The 2012 Denon AVR-3313ci or the 2010 Sherwood R972, they are both the same money. Or should I spend $200 more and get the new Denon X4000? Not planning on any more upgrades for at least a few years and don’t want to be too cheap and get an outdated machine (Sherwood) or not take advantage of a good deal (X4000). Thanks for all your opinions.

Denon X4000. Or you could pick up an HDMI splitter with HDCP support to split the signal out of your Onkyo. One side of the split to your receiver for DTS-HD, and Dolby TrueHD audio, the other side of the split for 3D to your Panasonic. Are you having any problems with your current receiver?

The Denon 3312 and 3313 are very good; those would be my second choice, after the excellent Cambridge Audio 651R.

IMO the Cambridge is the Rolls-Royce of receivers, and I would have nothing less; second to none in sound quality. They are a bit expensive, however.

Sherwood, Sony, and Yamaha are the very lowest quality you can buy IMO; I would never recommend them to anyone.

the audyssey xt32 would be worth the upgrade to the x4000.

the 3313 is a good receiver, but i think i would try out the sherwood just to see what the trinnov room correction could do for me.

I don't need snobs to tell me how to think, thank you!

You could get an OPPO BDP-103 and send HDMI 1 to your TV and HDMI 2 to your current AVR it would be cheaper than an AVR and you get your 3D.

No problems other than the 3D signal not passing. I just wired everything up and the wires were not a problem at all! I might just add another HMDI cable and call it a day. Sure but the old days with 5 wires per connection.

OK, Just re-read a review on the Sherwood and its out, just too big for my cabinet. So it's down to the 3313 or the new x4000. Prices have changed so the difference is now $240.00. Sure looks like the 3313 is too good of a deal to pass on. Couple of more days to think then I'll pull the trigger. Thanks for the replies.

I just bought a Yamaha HTR-7065 - the price was right and its a virtual clone of the more expensive V773 and the A820. That link is for a refurbished one with one year of warranty.

When all else fails - RTFM!

One thing I've really learnt, you usually DO get what you pay for. As long as you do research, of course.

I think you're a little tough on Yamaha. But they are definitely not what they used to be. Just another japanese brand. Denon/Onkyo/Pioneer/Marantz -- Blah blah. No wonder so many think "everything sounds the same" they are constantly comparing the same thing.

Sherwood is a great example that you can just put out goofy crap, year after year, and someone will buy it. Sherwood should stop trying to do something different, and just try to do something right.

Moderator harassment is wrong and immoral.
