Select the SETUP button on the remote and then select SETUP -- AUDIO - DIALOG LEVEL (Center)/SUBWOOFER LEVEL (Sub) both listed on p. 161 in your Owner's manual.

My wife just got this unit for me for Christmas, replacing a Pioneer 1326-k. It was between this and an anthem. Although I loved the Anthem, I wanted the airplay etc offered by the 7008. I find this to be one of the most attractive receivers out there. Can't wait to get it all hooked up. Will check in again soon.

Hey guys, been following the forum for a few years although his is my fist post so i apologize in advance if my questions have been answered already.  I just ordered an SR6008 from A4L.com and have a few questions:

1- Does anyone here think i made a mistake by ordering a refurb from A4L.com instead of a new one for a couple hundred $$ more from another site on the web?
2- This is my first Marantz although their reputation proceeds themselves.  A4L.com also has the Denon AVR-X4000 refurb for $120 more- I assume that in a Marantz forum thread everyone would say that i did right on choosing the SR6008, although i figured i would ask anyway.
3- Does anyone know where i can get a rack ear kit for the SR6008.  Marantz has the model as RMK6504S (MSRP$100) although i can’t find it sold anywhere.  Can i use any 4U rack ears? or do they have to be Marantz?

Please feel free to share any other thoughts on my purchase.

Thanks

Eric-

I would spend another $100-200 to get a new one with the 3 year warranty. The refurb only has 1 year warranty.

Lulimet- not sure the warrantee would play a roll as i assume it would have to be purchased from an "authorized dealer" in which i would be paying full price- $450 more.  But thanks!

While authorized dealers are only allowed to publicly advertise full list price, if you contact them directly, either on the phone or in person at a local A/V store, the actual "street" price is much lower. FWIW, AVScience, the sponsor of this forum, is an authorized dealer. JDSmoothie, one of the most helpful posters here, recently joined their sales team.

As Selden said, the real street price is much lower than the MSRP wink.gif

Contact jdsmoothie and see what he can do for you.

Thanks JD. I was looking for a way to do it without going to Setup menu (adjust these through one touch from remote. this was available in my old receiver for SW, Center, Dyn EQ etc.), looks like this is the only way.

Friends

I am considering either 7008 or 8801 and I know one is a receiver and the other a prepro (w/o amps).

Can I ask what are the difference in terms of the following

- DSP Chips
- The DAC been employed and the quantity
- Video processor chip
- Transformer quality
- Size of power capacitors

Thanks!

Correct, This feature is no longer available on the current remotes, although you can likely do it using the older remote codes copied to a Harmony remote.

JD, since you sell both the 7008 and Denon 4520, how do you feel they compare? I have NHT speakers rated at 87 dB efficiency and play equal music and movies. I only have a 5.2 setup and don't see myself going beyond 7.2.

Indecision may or may not be my problem.

Having never heard either, I couldn't personally say, however, the 4520CI would likely take the nod as it is a higher level model made with better components and 3 microprocessors vice only 2 in the 7008. Note however, it cannot pass digital audio to Zones 2/3 (outside of the All Zone Stereo feature that will pass the same HDMI 2.0 audio playing in the main zone to Zones 2/3) whereas the newer SR7008 can do this from an independent source playing just to Zone 2.

Thanks JD, I just found out about that lack of ability on the Denon. If it really is an improvement over the 7008 in sound, I might wait until the replacement model that hopefully will add the ability to send a digital source to zone2. Also want to be able to watch DirecTV while listening to another audio source.

Indecision may or may not be my problem.

The replacement will likely be released Oct 2014 and will not only add this feature but also be HDMI 2.0 certified as would all the D&M models being released next year.

Just got the SR7008 a few days ago and love it. A definite upgrade over my old Pioneer avr. I've got everything hooked up, but having issues with ARC/CEC. Hoping someone here can tell me how to set this up.

ARC is working fine between the TV and the SR7008 after turning on CEC/hdmi control on both the tv and the SR7008.

Here is the problem. When I want to watch a blu-ray or Tivo; I switch the TV input to the right input. I then switch the SR7008 input to CBL/SAT or bluray input to get sound. The SR7008 will switch the input on the tv to HDMI1, which is the input the SR7008 is on. I want the TV to stay on HDMI4 as that is where the Oppo is hooked direct to, but cannot figure how to make this happen.

When I switch the TV input back to the other hdmi inputs; the SR7008 automatically switches to the TV audio input for the sound.

If I turn off CEC/hdmi control; this problem goes away, but then I lose ARC. Anyone have any suggestions? I know I could just go optical out from the tv to the SR7008, but would rather stick with ARC if I can.

thanks

It's not worth the hassle, shut it off and run an optical connection or run everything through the AVR.

ARC is an either or feature ... can't have both so as Tom suggests, turn it off and simply connect and optical cable from the TV to the 7008.

Had the same issue, and have to agree with JD and Tom. I had to do the same and just run the optical cable, problem solved!

Hi All,

I posted this earlier in the main forum, before I saw this thread...

I just set up a new sr5008. I'm running Monitor Audio RS6 towers, center and surrounds in 5.1 with ML sub. I have the newer DirectTV HDDVR (not sure model number) and a PS3 connected via HDMI and HDMI output to a Panasonic GT50 plasma. I have a couple of questions about set up (so far):

If I want everything that's not native 1080P upscaled, what settings should I use? Should the resolution be set to auto or 1080P on the Marantz? Also, should I be using the i/p scaler, and if so, how should that be set?

I stream Amazon and Netflix through the Panasonic. In order to get the ARC working what settings should I use (I assume it has something to do with HDMI control; when we tried streaming last night we were getting video but no audio)? Once that is set up, is there a way to set the Marantz to convert the 2 channel from the streaming source to surround...if so, how.

Wait, I think that may have been more than a couple of questions :)

Thanks,

Joe

I was afraid that would be the answer. Looks like I'll hook up optical; thought I was done with those cables. The nice thing I like about CEC is that it would turn off devices automatically. I have a habit to fall asleep on my couch watching TV. It was nice when the tv would turn off it would turn off the avr and the oppo too.

I am sick with anticipation. My SR7008 arrives tomorrow, but I may not have an opportunity to hook it up till after Christmas.
