Is there more to this? I figured I would reach out to you, as your expertise is appreciated. Thanks for your time. Russ

I have no additional information, other than what is listed in the news release and that the firmware will be installed with the NetFlix DD+ fix which was installed on the 6008/7008 last month and on the 5008 end of this week.

thanks

Correct. It is currently only featured on the Denon 4520CI and X4000, with the X4000 having the same limitation as the 4520CI.

Here is an answer I got from Marantz when I was asking about MHL compatibility on my 7008.

"All receivers today use HDMI repeating protocol to communicate (sync) with devices. Your Yamaha receiver may be different in terms of communication and may work with different adapters and devices. Our receivers are spec'd to HDMI.org's standards, which will only guarantee devices that are HDCP compliant and up to HDMI version 1.4a certified."

I tested a Yamaha RX-A1020 for several weeks before returning it to get the Marantz 7008. While doing the testing, I hooked up my Samsung Galaxy S4 to the Yamaha using Samsung's MHL to HDMI adapter. It worked fine and I could display photos and videos stored on my phone to the big TV screen. Cool! However, when I got the 7008 and tried the same thing - nothing happened. My phone showed a successful HDMI connection but the 7008 wouldn't do anything with the signal.

I then emailed Marantz and asked if the MHL compatibility could be fixed with a firmware update. Their answer was "The 7008 doesn't support MHL and any change would be hardware based, not software based."

This may not be anything you are interested in but thought I would post my findings here since it was somewhat relevant.

Odd problem.

** Setup **
I had both a SR5007 and now a SR5008. I have a Panasonic DVD-F87 5 disc changer (use for exercise as I don't have to rotate the discs every day; I use my Oppo for movies). I am running the standard red/white RCA cables for audio and the yellow video RCA cable into the DVD port on the Marantz. On my older SR5007 and now my SR5008, this is what happens:

** Problem **
After a period of time where everything works ok (in this case 2 months), the video stops working. The sound still plays. The TV message is no signal, ensure device turned on, blah blah blah. I cannot see the Marantz menu when I push Setup on the Marantz remote. Cycling the power does not help.

** Troubleshooting **
1. When I had the 5007 and worked with Tech Support, resetting the unit would fix it for a day or two and then back to the same problem. I must have reset 3 or 4 times before realizing it was futile.
2. When I hooked the DVD player directly to the TV (audio and video), no problems. The video works fine.
3. When I hooked up a different, portable DVD player with a different set of cables to the Marantz same problem: sound but no video.

** Today **
Marantz was awesome in their Tech Support and replaced my 5007 with a 5008. After a 2 months or so of working, today the DVD video stopped, just like before. I really don't want to reset the 5008 and redo all the Audessy settings, etc. That seems like a temporary fix.

Has this happened to anyone else? It's not a huge big deal since I can still hook the DVD player to the TV directly but nonetheless it would be nice to know why this keeps happening. The explanation I can think of is the Panasonic is doing something to shutdown the Marantz DVD port, but when it wants to, such as after two months of working fine. (BTW, the SR5007 worked fine for 9 months before it went bad.) Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Ensure the Video Conversion setting for that source does not get set to OFF for some reason. Also ensure the DVD source is set to "-" for HDMI otherwise the HDMI video input will take priority.

Thanks for the information. I presume I will need to reset the unit to actually be able to call up the Menu while on DVD to verify/change these settings.

Took home the 7008 last night. So far, it is impressive. Now I just need to spend some time with it and the new Oppo 103. Very excited.

Last night I connected the new front speakers (Focal Chorus 816V) to my SR6008 and I moved the old Kef satellite speakers HTS 2001 on the surround.
I also connected my subwoofer KEF PSW 2000 successfully. I run the set up using the Audyssey and then I have done some test.
There are so many things that I need to discover and I know that I will need a lot of time but for now I am realy impressed about the DTS Neo:X, it's a bomb!
The surround result is pretty much nice but I need to adjust the difference between the big front speakers and the small surround satellite speakers.
I believe I need to give more power to the surround; any suggestion about?

pretty bummed out today; woke up this am, and the 6008 wouldnt connect to my network; did all the normal things, still no connection, called Marantz, went through it with tech support, and its a bad network board.
Best buy didnt have any in store, so its 3-4 days to get a new one sent to me..

Hope this isn't indicative of Marantz quality going forward..mad.gif

wase4711 - Sorry to hear that. I will say I am on my third Marantz unit in 12 months, including two 5007s and an upgrade to the 5008. They were all refurbished units but from an authorized Marantz dealer or replaced under warranty. I will say Marantz Tech Support has been great to deal with for the most part and while not always the fastest, they are thorough and flexible during the troubleshooting process. I am hoping this 5008 is the last one I have for a while as when it is working (and the 5007), it is fantastic.

In principle, you just need to run the Audyssey calibration. When it's finished, all of the speaker channels will be set to the appropriate levels.

Most movies use their surround channels only for ambiance, so the surround channels of those particular movies intentionally are not as loud as their main speaker channels. This is in contrast to movies which intentionally use their surround channels for special effects. (e.g. Master and Commander has cannon fire in all channels.) Also, if you have DynamicEQ enabled, it'll increase the relative levels of the surround channels as you turn the master volume down below reference (80 or 0 depending on which scale you've selected). Of course, if you really like the surround channels to be significantly louder, you can adjust their trim levels in the receiver to whatever you like.

What router/modem is the AVR connected to? Have you tried another brand of modem/router?

not necessary, since the other 4 devices connected to the switch have perfect network functionality...switch is a net gear pro, and the router is a new Asus ac router..

to make sure, I connected the raw internet cable directly to it, and there was nothing, and marantz tech support, after a full factory reset, said bad network card, take it back.

I'm just concerned that after 2 days, that happened. I know anything is possible when it comes to electronics, so I hope I just had a fluke..

Thanks for the answer
The first thing I have done is exactly run the Audyssey calibration.
Now I don't know if the reason of the surround not so loud depends by the movies or by the fact that I use a different speakers brand and type.
I will make some test starting from the Dinamic EQ on like you have suggested and in case I will try to change manually the levels

Although replacing the unit may resolve your issue, keep in mind that just because your other devices work when connected to the modem doesn't mean the AVR will as well.

if it doesn't, then its defective...I have had many things connected that way for several years, and, if its a network device, working properly, and is capable of grabbing an IP, then it should work.
This receiver is no different than any other network capable device in that regard...

Not quite ... there are number of cases where although the other devices worked just fine, the AVR did not until switching to a different brand of modem/router. Just like with HDMI cables ... just because it works when connected directly to the TV is no guarantee it will work when connected to the AVR.

I guess when it comes to electronics, anything is possible..but, after upgrading my router recently to the Asus ac68, and having it be the best, faster router I have ever used, there was no way I would consider replacing it because my AVR might not be compatible with it..

A questions on the pass-through on the 7008. In the setup menu, you have to choose which input is pass-through. Not possible to just have all of them pass through. Correct?

Having an Oppo 103D, i selected Blu Ray pass through so as to not effect the Darbee processing in anyway. I suspect the pass-through is still doing something. I had to increase the settings on the OPPO to make up going through the receiver. It seemed more washed out, even on pass through

7.2 with Thiel Power Points, twin Seaton Submersive F2's in Espresso. Krell Showcase Amp, Marantz Pre-Pro, Richard Grey Power, Control 4 Home Automation, lots of Blue Jean Cables, Oppo 103D, Sony DVD 777 400 Disc Changer and Samsung Plasma 64" 8500 all in a Salamander Synergy 247 in Walnut.

Please get the Dire Sttaits SACD Brothers In Arms 20th Anniversary Edition. Through my Oppo the surround mix is astounding. It is still relatively cheap at Amazon.

Correct. The factory default is the CBL/SAT source.

Anyone else prefer the sound if you leave the fronts full range and let Audyssey boost the low frequencies instead sending bass from the fronts to the sub? When I run Audyssey it sets my front monitors to full range. For me the sound is more cohesive and sounds much better off axis. I have Revel M106s (-10db at 37hz) and a B112 sub.

After reading so many posts that said to set the fronts to small and the crossover at 80 I didn't even bother listening to the settings the receiver suggested. If your unit suggested you run your fronts full range, I suggest you at least test it out.

I made a similar post in the Audyssey thread a while back but wanted t mention it here so people with the same receiver see it.

I run the fronts full range in pure direct for music only. For movies I much prefer to use the subs as the handle LFE much better then the fronts alone.

So the firmware update fixed my SiriusXM problem! (I was able to going in but no stations would display) Yaaaaayyyy!
Am I crazy or does it sound better now? It says AAC instead of a bit rate mp3. Was it always like that? And I also like how I now get nice resolution icons of the station I am listening to instead of the Pixelated icons they displayed before (It's the little things that I enjoy wink.gif ... )
What other goodies did this update bring us? I notice I can't find a change log anywhere...
