Here some pictures of my SR7008:

Everything is working fine. I'm using all HDMI inputs and both outputs (projector and TV). I still need to run Audyssey and check on the network, AirPlay and iPhone app.
Thanks for posting the images.

The Marantz SR7008 represents a interesting choice compared to the Denon lineup (x4000 and 4520). 9 ch amp (125 watt) and 7.1 multi channel analog inputs.

#9 ·
After running Audyssey and check on the network stuff, I can report that everything is working fine. Coming from a receiver with Audyssey MultEQ XT the improvement in SQ is very noticeable. I really love this AVR

BTW, like jd mentioned over the Denon E/X series thread, the SAVE/LOAD option only works with IE. I'm a Mac guy, so I took a 12 years old HP laptop that was in the closet to save my setup. It worked well, for now!!!

#10 ·
It looks like the SR5008 has the same DAC as the SR7008, right? They both support 24/192. If you strip away the differences in features, Audyssey, and wattage, is it safe to say that the SR5008 will sound just as good as the SR7008?

Also, what does the SR5008 compare to in D&M's sister company, Denon? Is the SR5008 similar to the X3000? Or perhaps between the X3000 and X4000?

Enrico what are you using for speakers? Do you listen to much 2ch music or Blu ray concerts?

I'm between the SR 6008 and the Cambridge audio 651r recievers right now.....

Rick,

I have Polk Audio RTi A9s as front speakers, CSi A6 center and RTi A3s surr. But I'm upgrading to Polk Audio LSiM705 fronts, LSiM706 Center and LSiM703s surr. I listen to a lot music and blu ray concerts. My subwoofers are Rythmik Audio F12SE. You can see my room right below my signature.

#13 ·
enrico nice set up....so you upgraded from the Onkyo to the Marantz? I'm upgrading from a older Yamaha 5550 to the marantz 6008 or cambridge audio......I can get the marantz for 1000. opposed to 1800 for the CA....The only thing stopping me is that people saying even though there isn't alot of bells and whistles with the CA from the Marantz, I hear the Sound quality and video is alot better than the Marantz......So I'm still very confused..I have the Golden ear Triton II's for fronts a SVS pb-12 nsd sub and average center and surround speakers, but because I listen to alot of music over home theatre I'm more concerned with my fronts and sub and having something good to get the most out of them.....

Let me know how you like the Marantz with musci and concert videos....

Thanks,

Rick

just booted the 7008. first i listened in 2-channel direct mode and it's much better sounding to me than the X4000 was. highs are better on my picky Usher S520s. less bass, not as fun. no subs or audyssey yet.

amazing how different they sound.

put the mic on the boom and ran audyssey. it detected both my subs in my 5.2 setup. calibrated them to 75db. did the 8 points in 2 ft. squares. stored that, and crossover point is set to *full band* on all speakers, put on a CD and no subs, only 2 channels working.

I know CDs don't have LFE channel, but usually audyssey sets a xover and enables the subs? strange.

also in pure direct mode the TV stays on, usually that goes off?

i'll unplug it from the wall and redo the audyssey.

Mingus,

You need to set the front speakers "Small" to get the subwoofers working in a 2.2 setup. Then set the front speakers crossover between 60-80 Hz. If you set your front speakers as Large you will get 2.0 sound.

#16 ·
Rick,

I was listening last night Sting Live in Berlin DVD Concert and It sounds INCREDIBLE!!! I can hear things that I never heard. Audyssey XT32 is just Awesome.

second running of audyssey I set them to small manually first and it still ended up *full band* on all speakers and no xover point, except this time it set only the surrounds to small and the xover at 40hz.

still no subs with CD audio, tried both HDMI and Coaxial inputs.

I thought audyssey set everything regardless of manual settings. maybe not.

I put on a blu-ray and the subs work, but doesn't have the impact it should. it's goofy.

Then you should get the Sting Live In Berlin [Blu-ray] and be really impressed. No lossless sound on DVD's.

#19 ·
I have the Blu-ray too but I do like more the mix on the DVD because for some reason Sting's vocals on the Blu-ray version sounds distorting. Looks like Sting vocals are clipping on the Blu-ray version. I read that report on Amazon reviews but I moved forward and bought the Blu-ray just to realize that it was truth.

I will check again on the Blu-ray. Maybe I got a bad copy because it's the only Blu-ray concert that sounds not right in my system. Thanks, John!!!

not sure what i was thinking, but in direct mode it will be 2 channels no sub, funny thing is, when i go to regular stereo mode still no subs because audyssey set the fronts to large /40hz. i manually set it to small and the subs come on, but it doesn't sound right.

audyssey set it up, changing the settings manually after doesn't seem to work well. so audyssey thinks all i need is 5 inch woofers in the s520s and subs are not needed in this room?

didn't work like this with the x4000, even tho it had a way different sound, the audyssey set the *same* speakers to small and the subs worked in regular stereo mode.

i'll read over the audyssey link when i have some time, maybe i'm missing something.

I'm leaving town tonight for a week so can not mess with it for now. i'll leave a key under the mat if you want to see what you come up with. there are some fresh young coconuts in the fridge, maca, goji, spirulina, and the vita-mix is on the counter.

thanks for the help.

I reheard/research it a bit more as the blu-ray.com review I mentioned showed some people in the comments saying the DTS-HD 5.1 96 kHz/24 bit mix was not as nice sounding as 2.0 PCM that one would probably utilize Dolby PLII to expand it out to a 5.1 setup.

IMHO this all boils down to the rear surrounds in the lossless DTS mix amplifying Stings voice dramatically, perhaps a bit too much when Audyssey MultiEQ XT for example takes over. This is the downside of some of these room equalization techniques that while they really immerse you into a films soundtrack, they aren't always the best with music concerts where the center is more of a reverb speaker.

Of course now that you got this new SR7008 you can play with all the audio modes to see what sounds best to you.
