Hi all, I've never actually purchased a TV or receiver or anything quite that expensive online for fear that during shipping is may get damaged or some of the internal circuitry would be bounced around to much. Is this a legitimate concern or something the people don't typically have issues with?

The receiver I believe I will purchase I can't find locally so it may be something that must be shipped.

Are you buying from a reputable dealer? Then there's absolutely nothing to worry about. Even in the incredibly rare case that the item arrives defective, a reputable dealer will easily help you to get a replacement unit or a refund.

BTW, I buy just about everything online, including major items like TVs and computers, and have been doing so for many years. I've had a few minor problems over the years, but nothing worth giving up the convenience and money saving for. Reputable dealers have always been quick to resolve any problems.

The most important thing is to make sure you only deal with vendors with proven track records, who will stand behind their shipping practices. Damages do occur but they are the exception rather than the rule. Look for a satisfaction guarantee with no questions asked. Amazon and Crutchfields are two I can highly recommend, but there are many others as well.

Who are you thinking of buying from, OP? Chances are real good that I (or someone else) could let you know whether they are a reputable online merchant.

Amazon and Crutchfield were the vendors I was considering. Amazon was selling through some other seller so I was leaning towards Crutchfield since I've ordered smaller items from them before and the seem very responsive to phone calls.

There might be a tiny risk in buying from a third-party seller through Amazon, but Amazon would definitely help you resolve any problems. As for Crutchfield, I've always thought of them as a bit expensive, but they've been around a very long time (my father used to get mail/phone order catalogs from them in the 80s) and have a stellar reputation.

You should have no problem either way.

Thanks for the help. The price is the same at either so I'll likely go through Crutchfield. I appreciate the piece of mind you all have given my wife because now I can order smile.gif

I've bought everything in my current setup online. Haven't been burned yet.

The one big hassle I have had with an electronic device? Bought from a local B&M store.

Don't believe everything on the Interwebz! A duck's quack DOES echo!

I'm always at least as concerned with the shipper as I am with the seller. In my experience, FedEx Ground - O.K., UPS - so-so, USPS - cancel the order.

Thats why the choice of sellers is most crucial...
You need their support and muscle to resolve issues..
Taking on the shipper without this is a losing battle...
As the shipper will reject the claim, and state it was not properly packed...
UPS, Fed-Ex will always reject the 1st submitted claim.. They just figure many will just give and write it off, no difference than the majority of insurance carriers...

Just my $0.02... wink.gif
