Let me say upfront I have no real complaints about the receiver, it was my first Pioneer purchase and I'm happy with its performance. I like the solid construction, banana plugs for all speakers etc. I honestly didn't see much difference with the much vaunted Qdeo video chip, and the remote is frankly not easy to use, and I'm not happy Pioneer don't have any phone apps to control my model.

Will any of the current receivers offer any improvement in sound quality/performance. Things like network playback and control using apps sound very attractive to me - e.g. if I'm able to easily play music and videos on my laptop via the receiver using wifi, that will get used a lot. And models like the new Sony DN1040 have both BT and wifi built-in.

Speakers are 5 bookshelf Axiom Audio, and a SVS sub in a mid size apt room. All the models I've looked at are more than capable of driving this setup.

So I guess I have 2 questions -

1. which current midrange receiver has the best sound quality? - this is very subjective of course
2. which has the best combination of OSD, GUI and control via remote apps, and other bells and whistles, without sacrificing #1 ?
