The generation 2 from Emotiva is supposed to be "all new".
Both offer a free trial period.
The Sherbourn apparently offers a 10 year warranty as opposed to the Emotiva's 5 year transferable.
Venerable or upstart?

People with the Emotiva product seem pleased.
Is it possible someone tried out both?

If so.....

It is quite possible that people have tried out both. One of the Emotiva employees posts regularly on the Emotiva Lounge. He's posted a review of the new XPA-5 and does a comparison to the PA 5-200. Its a long post but should answer some of your questions. You do know that Emotiva owns Sherbourn - right? Take that review with a grain of salt...

When all else fails - RTFM!

I don't own either of these amps, but I DO have several Emotiva products, including the XPR-5. XPA Gen 2 makes that choice much more difficult now that the XPA-5 has 29 dB of gain vs. 32 dB for the PA5-200. The PA5 has more capacitance and the longer warranty. Emotiva/Sherbourn makes sense for me because I'm just an hour away from their HQ if I have a problem that needs fixing.

HD-DVD = 94
Blu-Ray = 120 ( 24 Warner red2blu )

Yes the Gen 2 XPA-5 has 29 dB which is a plus for sure.
I have asked for more information on the 10 year warranty.

What did you come from?
What do you like about the product that betters your last amp other than being 20 minutes away?

Any chance you can provide the link to the review?
I did try the emotiva lounge link you had included, thank you but it went to a review of the xpa5.

Yeah I see that. I thought that review compared the two amps but no such luck. FWIW I'd buy either of those two amps and be quite happy. I have the 'old' XPA-5 which is about 4 years old. It performs as it should and runs quite cool. This is my second one - I sold the first one and moved to a couple of Acurus amps - an A200 two channel and an A200x3 three channel. I've owned a lot of amps over the years and haven't found anything better than the Emotiva amps. They work!

If you tend to keep gear a long time the Sherbourn has the better warranty but I'm not sure its transferable like the Emotiva warranty. IMO a transferable warranty is a selling feature but then I don't keep stuff too long - certainly not 10 years!

When all else fails - RTFM!
