First, it can EQ only lows below 250Hz or below 125Hz or it can EQ full range.

Second, the "rating" is not an issue if the measurement program corrects for the mic's performance.

Thanks for the response! I look forward to your review. Are you going to use the Foundation with your NY system also?

Can't wait Kal. I think anyways. smile.gif Hopefully it sounded almost as good as the best or I need to get around more. I am usually not blinded by a name tag but it could happen to anyone.

Cant wait either, I did go in and rerun the ARES and the EQ at 125, sounds better. Great tip. Also it found my sub with it up all the way the second time so I am going to just leave this alone for a bit and see how it sounds across all different sources.

question:

wondering if anyone has the Foundation connected to a control system such as Crestron or RTI?

I want to know if two way drivers for feedback of unit status are available via RS232 or IP?

TIA

If I had to speculate, the Foundation will be the best sounding processor under $6,500.00.

This is the way I did ares always. I tried 250 and 125hz settings down. I liked either way. But didn't like fullrange as much

Well, did you measure the output for each option?

When I asked about this, I was told that it is possible via both RS232 and IP.

No sure didn't Kal. I didn't trust my rew setup enough anyhow. I did do some rew graphs through the Foundation however. This was with eq 250hz down. The graphs looked great but sub was elevated. Didn't know enough about rew at the time to trust it. smile.gif

I ordered one for a client that will be using it with an RTI I'll report back in about 3 weeks or so.

Well, we watched a movie last night and it sounded amazing, I have left all the settings as set by ARES, and the EQ. With the sub up all the way it added a few DB, and with running the EQ at 125 it took out that over bass prob I had with running it at 250. I think I am just going to leave it like this and live with it some more, it sounded great.

Great deal. I don't know how the Foundation does it but whatever it does with ares at the end the sound is always impeccable. Unless you the operator do something wrong in setup. Which I did a couple times. Dang manual? Or whatever that is.

Just watched my second movie on the Foundation. Freeking amazing. Before I only used it for music which already impressed me. Can't wait to read Kal's review to see if he agrees with us about the sound!

One thing I have never heard described of the Foundation is bad sound. Yeah maybe a couple features here and there. But never bad sound.

We are excited to announce the Illusion and Illusion II preamplifiers. Ideal companions for the new Class A series of iBias amplifiers, the Illusion and Illusion II preamplifiers are perfect centerpieces for world class two channel audio systems. Shipments begin next week.

Illusion Highlights
The Illusion preamplifier extends the Krell tradition of separating the audio circuitry from the power supply in our flagship preamplifiers.

Circuitry
The Illusion preamplifier is a dual monaural circuit design with the left and right channels afforded their own power supply regulation and individual full chassis sized boards. All signal gain is realized in surface mount topology using proprietary multiple-output current mirrors with nearly 500 times the open loop linearity of other designs. 1.5 MHz open loop bandwidth in a zero feedback, balanced, Krell Current Mode design terminating in Krell CAST. A complete Krell system, connected using CAST interconnects reduces the number of voltage gain stages to the minimum, one. The resulting noise floor approaches the theoretical limit of technology. Negative feedback is not used anywhere in the preamp, nor is it necessary.

Power Supply

Locating the power supply in its own chassis presents the ideal configuration for isolating stray electrical and magnetic interference from the critical preamplifier signal path.

The circuitry is completely discrete giving it the ability to respond quickly to current demands and also be unaffected by all but the most severe AC voltage power fluctuations. Oversized for a preamplifier, the power supply features a 290 VA transformer and 41,600µF of capacitance. Capable of delivering current and voltage swing for any musical event, the Illusion power supply is gentle on AC requirements when not in use.

Illusion II Highlights

Circuitry
Like its bigger brother, the Illusion II preamplifier is a dual monaural design with independent power supplies and audio boards for the left and right channels. Surface mount technology using proprietary multiple-output current mirrors is employed to guarantee tremendous open loop linearity. Like the Illusion, negative feedback is not used anywhere in the preamp. The headphone circuitry is identical to the main circuitry, offering private listening with the same performance as speaker playback.

Digital Inputs
Five digital inputs support up to 24 bit/192kHz LPCM. All digital signals are fed to an ESS Sabre DAC and then sent to Krell's Current Mode, discrete, balanced analog circuitry.

Yeah found it. The Illusion 2 sounds interesting. In this day and age I think you need some digital inputs on at least one preamp in your arsenal. Just my opinion though. Some would say I was crazy. smile.gif

Both units are 2 channel stereo pre-amps with one being exclusively analog and the other containing a D/A converter. Its most unfortunate that Krell opted to not include some sort of analog pass through on the Foundation which means you may not be able to use a turntable or an outboard D/A converter. But, I guess that would have added about 3k to its price so maybe they made the right decision.

We'll have to see if the new stuff sounds as good or better than their previous equipment. I love my Foundation but it is not as solid as my other Krells. I think they want to make more "affordable" equipment.
