This is not a hobby. It is an addiction. Adding the Foundation to my system was like adding Peyton Manning to the local high school team. Sure they play better, but now I am forced to add a new center and a couple of top notch wide receivers. It is an exhausting and addicting search trying to find speakers that are worthy enough to play with the Krell.

I like to / need to crossover my speakers high enough that they are localizable. Just enough to be annoying.

If you have the funds i know you wouldn't be disappointed in its sound quality. The little mini review of the Foundation vs the xmc1 really can't be taken very seriously. Because I have now heard the Classe on Bowers and Wilkins 801s and in that room it wasn't even close to the sound i get with my equipment.
The xmc1 really might be great for the money but if it is as great as that review nobody would want anything else unless they wanted the new surround formats.

Now if emotiva comes out with their reference processor this might change. But for now if great sound is what your after the Foundation has it. I can assure you no disappointment in sound quality.
Just curious, why can't that mini review be taken seriously?

You can if you want to. But the reason i cant is because someone else has posyed that his avm30 sounds way better than the xmc1 and i have heard that. It in my opinion it isn't close to the Foundation in sound quality. And i am getting the sense that the xmc1 sounds about the same as the umc. And he didn't compare analog quality. He might not have even had either of the two calibrated properly.

There is just to many unknowns with that review. And i am not the only one that has suggested this. Even some in the actual xmc1 thread.

I am not saying at all that in his opinion with how they were setup with his equipment in his room that the xmc1 sounded better to him. I am sure he was genuine in his statement.

LOL... no doubt you speak from experience! I guess there are worse things to obsess about and spend money on.

I always wondered how the Krell would sound with my speakers (Kef Reference 4's), as I was quite pleased with their performance with my old Yamaha DSP-A1. I am hoping the Krell will provide an entirely new level of enjoyment.

Perhaps I should ask some of the Krell honchos what their favorite speakers are based on their experiences?

I use B&W 802D with Krell Evolution 600 monos and B&W 805s for sides. The 802's rocks with the 600's!!! Also B&W DB1 sub.

Hi all! I'm having some difficulties setting up the connections from the Oppo 105 to the Foundation.

I have two balanced XLR's from the 'stereo out' of the oppo to the Foundation 'analog in' XLR on the Foundation. Sounds great! Problem arises when I try to play a 5.1 DVD. I get no rear or center sound. I thought the Oppo 'HDMI 1 Output' connected to one of the Foundation HDMI Input slots would be the answer, but I get nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I think by default the bd1 input is hdmi in 1. Is your hdmi going out of the oppo and into this HDMI1 input? Then you have to select bd1 input on the Foundation.

Have you went through the menu and set anything up? You have to read the owners reference which I will admit is pretty bad.

See on the Foundation you have to setup each source in the menu. It is very configurable but it can be a daunting task.

Yes, I ran the speaker setup and everything is OK. I will try to revisit it later with a clear mind.

Good deal. I am sure you will be able to find a used one for about 3000-4000 less.

Folks the ibias amps are starting to get some rave reviews from professional reviews and owners. Some on audiogon are saying that they sound more like class a than the evo series. And are a little more tube sounding. I like the German review. That person said about exactly what I said about the Chorus. He also said pretty much that the first reviewer that sent it to him should have waited because it sounded much better as time went on.

As an update, I finally figured out the set-up process and the Foundation now recognizes the HDMI signal from my Oppo. I'm hearing my music in a way that I never experienced before. I've been letting it play to get more break-in hours and I am very pleased with the Krell system.

Thanks again for the help!

Ron

No problem Ron. I am glad you like it. It is an awesome sounding piece of equipment. This is one of the many reasons why I have a problem with that comparison between the Foundation and the xmc1. There is no way another 7.whatever channel processor is going to trounce the Foundation.

There is some that probably sound better. But trounce I can't believe.

Do you have a link for that? Google translate works ok for German, less so for audiophile terms but still makes things readable.

No not in English I pretty much had to decipher some myself. But what got translated well enough was pretty darn good. I cant wait for Krell to post the review translated properly on their site.

Also what people are saying over on Audiogon that have heard the Evo E series are saying that these new amps sound better than even the E series. That is high praise.

Me neither. How many of these are there? I wouldn't think a lot. But must be. I thought you got in early vvuuren.

When did you folks get in on the upgrade? I know I was a bit after you both. I got in when I ordered my Foundation and Chorus. I saved a bunch by doing so. It was a no brainer.

I thought I got in early. You can imagine how anxious I am because I still need to send my amp back for repair the same time!
