Hi guys,
I recently purchased a used RX-V3900 to replace my RX-V3200, I was very happy with my RX-V3200 and just wanted HDMI, internet radio and a few extra more modern conveniences with out a sacrifice of power.
I have connected Cerwin Vega E-715 speakers which when paired to the RX-V3200 would just about blow the windows out in my house. When connecting the RX-V3900 the sound pressure is gone, simply put my Cerwin vegas sound like little satellite speakers on this thing - they can go somewhat loud but there is next to no bass, I originally configured it with the yamaha mic, then reset as it looked to put a high pass filter on, I then manually configured them to large speakers, tried boosting the bass, then did several complete factory resets.
With the same music source i have run the amps side by side, both on processor direct, the difference is like chalk and cheese.
Is there something I am missing or have I acquired a dud?
Surely the more modern more powerful RX-V3900 should not be blown out of the water by its older lower spec'd RX-V3200..

Any input would be appreciated.

You are telling the receiver that there is no sub?

No, Mr. Bond. I expect you to die!

Processor direct bypasses all of the settings. You may have a bad receiver. Do you have another set of speakers to try?

No, Mr. Bond. I expect you to die!

I posted a similar thread about an old h/k receiver and cerwin vega at-10 speakers. sounded rich and full before we switched to a denon 3312, now the speakers sound shallow and lifeless. seems like the newer amps just dont have the amperage backing them like the old receivers, the hk was only rated at 60 watts and boy it sounded way better than this 125watt

thanks for the suggestions, turns out in the speaker setup in subwoofer it had a bass out selection as subwoofer, subwoofer & fronts, fronts only. Even with a factory reset subwoofer only was selected... Set to fronts and sounding much better.
In my opinion my older "less powerful" RX-V3200 has the upper hand in sound quality and oomph...

My favourite AVR, still miss it. Try Pure Direct mode, it should wake up your vegas.
