I am looking to purchase a 7.2 receiver for under $800. I am stuck with paralysis of analysis. I want one that has at least 100w per channel. I plan to use it for movies and occasional gaming. So far, I have the following components:

Epson 3020 projector
Vizio Bluray
PS3
Streaming via Roku (Later I plan to incorporate a HTPC with XBMC)

I have been looking at the following receivers:

Sony STR-DN1040
Onkyo TX-NR727 - I have read good reviews on this one
Onkyo TX-NR818
Onkyo TX-NR828 - I hear that the 818 has more features
Denon AVR-1913

Any suggestions on which one I should choose or is there is another one that I haven't considered?

Bump, I'm kinda in the same boat... I'm looking hard at a referb 818. Seems like the best bang for the buck I've found unless I'm overlooking something. Help us out! Thanks!

Denon X2000 or X3000 would be good choices. The 818 has the best version of Audessey out of all of them, but the AVR has not been without its issues, as many Onkyos seem to be.

Nice thing about the Sony and Onkyo 727 and 828 is the wi-fi and BT built in.

+1 on the 818 witn Multeq 32XT. Even Denon receivers have issues. The 828, to me, seems like a step down from the 818.

828

I prefer the layout of the 828 speaker connections, not as crowded.

The Denon X2000 has a lower profie, and less power than the Onkyos, but has less places to plug stuff in..

X2000

The X3000 has a bit more power, and adds Audyssey Multeq XT

The Denon units do have a longer warrranty - 3 years to 2 years for the Onkyo....

As I've said in the past, the number of customers who have issues with their receivers, and report those issues here on AVS, no matter what the brand, are fairly small, compared to the number of total number of units sold worldwide.

My choice is between the Onkyo 818 and 929 or Denon 4000. I want AUD. XT32 and these three all have it.

I have to agree in regards to complaints and problems. You'll always hear about the problems, especially on this forum because the users here are more informed and into A/V then 99% of the purchasers out there. I'd be curious to what % of A/V purchasers actually visit this forum. Maybe 1-5%, I have no idea.

My only other concern is should I wait for HDMI 2.0 to come out on receivers or P/P's.
