Hi.

To play back some old cassettes correctly, I need to add some high frequency boost.

For the life of me I can't figure out how to turn on the tone controls on my Denon AVR-1911.

I'm not using Audyssey and I always use Direct Mode.

The instruction book says to switch to Stereo Mode (which I've done) but it doesn't explain clearly how to turn on the tone controls nor how to apply some HF boost.

Can anyone help?

As noted on p. 51 in the Owner's manual, the Tone Controls can be set as long as Audyssey Dyn EQ is not enabled; however, as noted you must be in STEREO mode and not Direct mode for the Bass/Treble controls to be enabled.

Yep, I know all that, thanks.

So, it's in Stereo Mode. I can then get to "Tone Controls" on the receiver's interface. But what do I do next to access the HF tone control and then raise it by the correct compensatory amount.

Please spell it out for this newbie.

Thank you again.

The Tone Control setting merely gives you access to either a general bass or treble setting if you want to continue to use Audyssey. If you disable Audyssey, by setting the "MultEQ" setting to Manual (p. 51 OM), you then have access to a graphic EQ (p. 53 OM) in which can adjust the various frequency bands as noted below ...

Jdsmoothie, thanks for your patience.

I don't use Audyssey as I like to keep the sound as "pure" as possible.

I'll have another go on the weekend and let you know the results (fingers crossed).
