I am looking for a good receiver to use at my testing station at my pawn shop. I plan on having an hdmi wall plate and a composite wall plate connecting to the receiver and having the hdmi out on the receiver goto my testing tv. My question is if receivers will take the composite input in and transcode? it to the hdmi out so that I can use one cord to my tv. I am using the receiver for testing speakers as well. Does anyone know if you can hook up any type of car audio to a receiver too?

Im looking in the yamaha brand and at a 300 dollar budget.

I guess my question is which is the cheapest receiver that will allow me to hook up composite inputs and it will upconvert to hdmi using the hdmi out. I bought a Sony from walmart recently and when hooking up composite inputs you could not get the receiver to output the signal in hdmi.

Im afraid in order to get this feature ill need to spend 4-500 dollars.

The lower level models (ie. < $500) generally don't do analog --> HDMI conversion so you will likely need to look at 1-2 year old models, like the 2011 Denon 1912 which is the lowest model of that year that can do the conversion ...

No mention of being able to do the composite ---> HDMI conversion you require, so then no. You'll have to upgrade to the next higher model for that feature, the 675.

Typically upconversion is included with 7.1 and better AVRs.

As for car audio, you could feed line outputs from a head unit or processor to a line input on the receiver. If you want to power-up big power amps on the bench, you'll need a hefty power supply. Astron is one respectable brand.
