Hello one and all,

I am interested in setting up a 7.1 channel HT system. I don't think I have the space for the back surrounds as the couch is hugging the wall. But I am interested in adding height speakers to normal 5.1 setting and make it a 7.1 ch system.

What should I look for in a receiver that will allow me to do this?

I've never done height speakers. But I have had good results with your situation pointing 7.1 back speakers up on the wall with the sofa against it.

look for a 7.1 receiver that offers Dolby PLIIz which is for height speakers.

Thank you!

I have been looking at TX-NR818 then TX-NR828 and now TX-NR929 and X4000 and I am sure all of them support this mode. Appreciate your inputs.

Most 7.1 AVRs offer that feature to include the units you listed.

------------
"JD" - Call 585-645-1006 or email jd@avscience.com for AVR selection and pricing discussion 8am - 8pm EST daily (incl Sat/Sun)
AV Science - Dealer for Denon, Marantz, Yamaha, Onkyo, Def Tech, Atl Tech, SVS, Oppo

Think you have a defective AVR? Owner's manual - Factory reset 4-5 times in a row.

@aries316... I am on a budget here and definitely don't want to spend so much. I will buy X4000 or TX-NR929 during the holiday season only when it is around 700-800 bucks.
