I'm yet another person that needs help. I need to purchase a receiver for a dedicated theater room. The room is 15x20 with 8 foot ceilings (2,400 cu ft). I'm going to be using DIY speakers, 5 or 7 + couple subs. I'm looking for an open box/refurb to get some real bang for the buck.

I'm drawn to the Onkyo NR818. I feel like I NEED XT32. Which trumps the rest of the recievers below.

My brand options are Denon, Onkyo, and Marantz. Basicly I want Audyssey.

MARANTZ SR6007
DENON AVR-X3000
DENON AVR-3313CI
Onkyo TX-NR818 (MultEQ XT32, (I can get the extra 4 year warrenty here, since I read that other thread: eek.gif) No 4k pass through? I'm using a projector so who knows how many years will go by before a 4k projector will be affordable. So that may be a non issue.
DENON AVR-4310CI
Marantz SR7005
Onkyo NR828

I'd like the extra of control via app also.

All these are $600-$700 via accessories for less.

Thanks for the help!

The 818 does not feature the Sub EQ HT (dual sub EQ) feature and the X3000 offers HDMI audio --> Zone 2 which the 818 does not feature. So boils down to what features you want.

Ah, Glad you pointed that out. Makes me wonder if I just just do a refurb X4000 that way I have everything I need for sure, or just back way off and get a basic receiver and the ability to start the DIY speakers faster.

If you are flexible on the XT32, some of the previous generation receivers from Anthem have pretty highly touted room correction. Some of those can be had from dealers clearing out stock.

If you're also slightly flexible on the price, you could also go separates with the Emotiva UMC-200 and a XPA-500 amp for about $849. It also come with its own propriety room correction. You also get discounts on future upgrades.

Just some other ideas to consider. Is your DIY a kit?
