All,
I just purchased a new Samsung UN55F7100 LED TV and I am having problems with the Smart TV audio though the receiver. I have the latest firmware on the Onkyo 609 and the Samsung TV. I have RIHS set to "on" and ARC set to "auto" on the Onkyo. Do I need to have a optical cable between the TV and receiver? Any help would be great! Thanks!
Dave

Hi FeeArrow, to use ARC make sure the HDMI cable is plugged into the TV HDMI -2 input. Also in the Samsung AnyNet + menu set External Speaker to from "Tv Speaker" to "Receiver". You may have to power off and on the components.

JChin,
Thanks for the reply! I moved the HDMI to input 2 and now it automatically changes the Onyko receiver to TV/CD and I do not get audio from my Cable/SAT. Any ideas? Thanks again!

Note that ARC (audio return channel) is to pass audio from tv to receiver.

What other source do you have and how are they connected?

If you have a HD cable box connect it directly to the Onkyo 609 HDMI (CBL/SAT) input.

JChin,
I have all my devices connected through the Onkyo 609:

PVR is on CBL/SAT 3
Blu-Ray is on BD/DVD 1
Xbox is on Game 4
PC is on PC 5
and I have "OUT" connected to the Samsung TV on HDMI 2 now.

Do I need to connect an optical cable from the TV to the receiver? Thanks again for the help I really appreciate it!
Dave

That's the negative of ARC, it automatically switch to TV/CD input. If you're not using tv apps then turn off AnyNet+ and ARC (and ARC on Onkyo). The Blu-Ray player and Xbox most likely has the same apps as the tv.

Optical cable is not needed from tv to receiver.
