Netflix DD+ Firmware update schedule for Denon and Marantz AVRs

D&M expects to release firmware updates to resolve this issue beginning with the 2013 and 2012 models first based on the following schedule, followed by the 2011 (XX12) models early fall 2014. They are unable to provide updates to the 2010 models and earlier models.

*** Firmware update for the Marantz 7701 has been delayed until sometime in March.

NOTE: The work around is to set the Netflix source device to either PCM or STEREO and let the AVR use DD PLII to simulate 5.1 audio.

Amazing - if this does actually happen!

Can't quite believe how long it's going to take though, over a month for the first upgrade.

Presume the 1912 considered a 2011 model then? Wonder when on earth there's going to be a resolution for that? And really hoping that it includes UK AVRs as well!

I'm thinking pretty much anything that didn't have user upgradable firmware is hosed.

My 3808 has upgradeable firmware but the receiver was released around 2007.

I am checking on this now. In the past, non-networking models were able to be updated by sending the unit to an authorized repair facility which would then use a special "jig" to install the firmware.

Luckily my 591 works perfectly fine with DD+. I wonder how many versions of firmware this receiver had?

Guess this is all a bit late for House of cards series 2 on the 14th February then. Come on Denon ... Pull you're finger out ..... you've had months to sort this shambles out.

The 4311 better get the update or I'll certainly never bother with Denon again. This after 20 years !

JD..
Does that mean all new Denon & Marantz AVRs in existing inventory such @ Best Buy, Magnolia and Amazon will require a firmware update??
Or will they be updated prior to selling??

Just my $0.05... 👍😉

Just thought I'd chime in that I've noticed this issue with a Roku 3 connected to my Denon AVR-X1000 with Dolby Digital + streams on Netflix.

I really look forward to getting the firmware fix later this month... I hate having to stream in stereo *shudders* :-)

I recently purchased a Sony BDP S5100 bluray player because it had a Netflix app. I connected the audio to an old Denon receiver (AVR-1501, no HDMI) using a digital coaxial cable connection.

I experienced the same popping and clicking sounds during playback that have been discussed by others on this thread. On more than one occasion, the noise was so loud that the receiver went into protection mode and turned off the sound.

Thinking that this was a problem with the Sony, I returned it and purchased a similar Panasonic which has digital optical out for audio. The same problem occurred. The problem is reproducible on Fringe season 5, episode 21 at the same location early into the show.

I then tried chatting with Netflix on 2/1. Below are parts from their "helpful" response:

"I know exactly why this is happening! When the device is hooked up to a speaker system also the audio gets messed up because we have a software in our system that stops titles from playing when it detects other devices hooked up to it to prevent from people.

"What you can do is when you click on the title and brings up the description box, there are option to play the title and there is also and Audio and Subtitles option, click on that and you can then change it sound system or stereo to switch it.

"It has to do with it being connected to a different device the sound is not playing right because we need to do what is called an HDCP handshake which stands for High-bandwidth Digital Content.

"The reason you will need to do that is so we can read your device that the sound is coming out of and see that it is not a device that you are recording the content on smile.gif"

No mention at of the likely causes identified in this thread.

I ultimately returned the Panasonic bluray player.

Is there a bluray player with a Netflix client that will work with my old receiver?

or

Do I need to buy an new receiver to get any of the streaming-enabled bluray players to work correctly?

Dave
