Well the time has come where I am considering an upgrade / update to my Anthem. I run a Sunfire Sig 7 channel amp, Oppo Blu-Ray, the new Samsung 8000 75" tv and my speakers are Dali Helicons with an added Seaton Submersive HP sub for a 7.2 set up.

For the time being I purchased a DVDO HDMI switcher to take care of HDMI inputs. I primarily use the system for movies / tv. Given the ever evolving HDMI "specs" and 4k technology I am wondering the best route to go forward. No pre / pro ( or any product for that matter ) is "future proof" as some like to claim, but are there any suggestions to a reasonable option ?

I have looked at the new Anthem's , Krell and McIntosh but spending 5-7K on a new pre / pro is a big expenditure. Trying to "decipher" fact from fiction with all the latest and greatest becomes problematic, so I would like to pick those more knowledgeable on the Forums brains. Any suggestions on an upgrade option or am I better off to stay put and wait for the whole HDMI version 1.5 /2 / whatever to run it's course and look then ? By using the switcher am I missing out alot for movies and should i just buy an older HDMI enables pre / pro ?

First post and happy to be on the forum. Thanks for your time and any advice you all may have.

Mike

Marantz 8801 is probably the best processor out there for the money. I have seen them new as low as $2300 shipped, from authorized dealers.

One advantage to upgrading your D1 to an AVM 50v or D2v is that you get ARC (Anthem room correction). It works wonders. I upgraded my AVM 30 to an AVM 50v and have never looked back.

Cheers from the Great White North.

I looked at an AVM50 and seriously considered getting one. I am not overly familiar with Marantz but have been told they produce a nice smooth and "warm" sound.

The 8801 has it's own dedicated thread on here. I believe many of those people are coming from Anthem. I don't hear any complaining. The 8801 is supposed to be really good in 2 channel mode, as well as home theater.

Thanks for the input. I appreciate ppl taking the time to reply. The Marantz looks like a nice processor. I'll have to check around my area and see whats available....maybe even get some trade in value from my D1.
