Hi all.

I'm looking for suggestions for an AVR under $500 to recommend to a friend. I understand "best" is dependent on the actual application so I'm looking for suggestions here.

I have no idea what the current best $500 offerings are and/or the quirks or problems associated with any new models.

Any suggestions?

I have been very satisfied with my Denon AVR-X1000. It is one of the cheapest models to include the Audussey XT variant. You can get it for under 500 dollars (I paid 445 euros).

I have to say that I'm no expert in audio equipment, just a music enthusiast.

If there is no Frys, nearby, another option is either the Denon X1000 as pasisti suggested or if you want 7.1 with capability to do Zone 2 with an external amp, the X2000, both of which use the more advanced version of Audyssey MultEQ XT and come with a 3 year warranty (vice 2 year on the E400).
