I have a really old receiver and it can not power my new BIC F12.  I was wondering what receiver could power the sub woofer along with 5 other speakers adequately.  I only need 5 HDMIs 4 is due able though. Price Range 200-350.

That is a powered sub so does not need any powering from the AVR. You just need a 5.1 AVR with a sub pre-out like the Denon 1613.

if that is the case, can you think of a reason as to why the AVR often shuts down/goes in Protect Mode when the bass is to much? If it has its own amp then why would this occur?  Is it just drawing too much power from it ?

Check the speaker wires connected to the AVR to ensure there is no loose wire from one post touching another as that is most often the reason for an AVR going into protection mode.

alright i checked that out, and the polarity on the speakers were off. maybe that was the problem?  do you have any recommendations for a set of 5 speakers? around the same price range 200-400?
