Just bought a Denon AVR-E300 and hooked it up to my Time Warner DVR. The sound comes through just fine (albiet at a much lower level than I would expect), but the picture sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. There appears to be no proximate cause for this picture problem. The on-screen error says an incompatible video signal has been received. The Denon does just fine with Blu-Ray movies. If anyone can help me with some setting I need to adjust that would be great. I'm at the point where this new unit is going back to the store on Saturday if I can't get it to work via HDMI.

Cable boxes can be finicky. Its usually the problem rather than the DVR. Please try a new high speed HDMI cable first.

What resolution is your DVR set to output?

Also, you can adjust the volume of the inputs. Its in the setup menu for the receiver.

There is a E/X series Denon Owners thread that you might find helpful.

please unplug cable box and plug back in first
if that does not work try swapping HDMI
If that does not work try switching it to different hdmi input on receiver
if all of those fail you have faulty hdmi on dvr

It's all fun and games until my wife notices something new in the entertainment center
