Just wanted some options on which of these hk receivers you would go with I know the 1700 is newer but seems to have less features more of entry level and the 1600 is older but more features

Depends what you call "features".

The 1700 has 3D passthrough, ARC, networking, Airplay, internet radio, etc. which the 1600 does not offer.

Big difference is # of HDMI inputs..
1600 has (3), 1700 has (6)

Just my $0.05... 👍😉

I hear you guys know that I think of it the only thing the 1600 has over the 1700 that I would remotely care about is 7.1 I guess my main concern was the sound quality between then my understanding is the 1700 uses a different style amps that allows it to be light?

Incorrect..
The 1700 uses an SMPS (switch-mode-power-supply) like a computer, whereas the 1600 is an analog EL linear power supply.
Regarding the amplifiers, they are identical Class A/B design except the 1600 has 7 channels and the 1700 has 5 channels.

Just my $0.05... 👍😉
