Hi folks,

have been reading all the entries and trying to garner as much info as possible before making my purchase. Long story short - recently returned a Samsung HT system and am now wanting to use a receiver instead with my old stereo speakers (for now until I have money to upgrade).

I currently use stereo speakers from an old Sony RX100AV system (front and centre are 8ohm rated by rear is rated 16ohm) and am wondering if:

a) Marantz will actually work with these speakers (16ohm?)

b) How bad or good the sound will be (due to power issues of 50W or less per speaker/channel) - My living room is about 16x16ft

c) If this is a good system to permit 3D images and Blu-Ray type audio since I have a 3D HD TV and 3D Blu-Ray player

d) Is there another comparable receiver that's cheaper that can do the same?

Can anyone help this newbie? I'm not sure I trust the shop as they seem more intent on selling the device rather than sharing actual info on what is needed or works with my current system.

I am not an audiophile per se, but I do like warm sounds and prefer the "analog" type sounds to "digitized" sounds if that makes sense.

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

You can get a $200 receiver with HDMI that will pass 3D video signals. No need to spend all that money on the Marantz 1604.

Is this your Sony system?

The speakers will work for now but you'll want to replace them pretty quickly.

with the money you save from not buying the 1604 you could buy your speakers too.
