Hey guys, I'm making my first HT system. It will be a 5.1 system composed of Pioneer BS22s for front and surrounds(or FS52 for the fronts, haven't decided yet), Pioneer C22 for the center, and a Dayton Sub1200 for the sub. These will be the parts I will be using.

So now I need to come up with a receiver. I gave myself a price point of $350. So that means I'm looking at the Denon AVR1613, Denon E300, and the Yamaha RX-V375.

I could really care less about networking. All I want is the best sound quality for movies, and a good on screen display. For inputs, I only need 4 hdmi, which all the lower end receivers seem to have.

Any suggestions on receivers? Really I want to go as "cheap" as possible without sacrificing quality. So bang for the buck is important to me.

Have you checked accessories4less? They are all refurbished with warranty, and could get a heck of a deal. Very reputable site and highly recommended here.. Great CS as well.

Here's the 1613 you were looking at.

Also let's you get into a much higher end receiver for the same $350 if you wanted to go that route too

I like Denon myself and they can certainly be found in this price range.

I did look at A4L, but refurbished units scare me.
Do I have unfounded worries?

Generally a solid choice, although unfortunately there are going to be some bad apples in the bunch.

There are bad apples with brand new unboxed units as well....

OP I wouldn't be one bit worried about refurbished... Just curious.. Why are you worried? they are refurbished at the respective factory, and carry at least a 1 year warranty.. According to the members on here, the products look like new once received...

I've read some comments on here about bad Denon units, but looking at the return policy and warranty, you are right. Why not.
So yea, I'll go with a refurb unit for sure.

Hmm now to choose a receiver.

I have a question about Yamaha and YPAO. I know there receivers are well regarded, and really the only reason I was going to get a Denon was for Audyssey.

How is YPAO vs Audessy? Should I consider that, or if I find a good deal on a Yamaha just go with that?

Reason I ask is because I've already seen a few deals on Yamaha.

With the lower/mid level models, the version of YPAO used does not EQ the subwoofer, while all Denon models that feature Audyssey can EQ both the speakers and the sub.

I was curious about ypao as well. Now that I paid $400 for my Sony dn840, the Yamaha 773 and denon x2000 are really making me think about returning it...
