Hi all I am new to this forum and have done a good amount of research but I cannot find a direct answer to my question.  I just ordered a set of Polk 75t's. I hope they are good speakers.  I currently have a Harmon Kardon Avr 146 that I have barely used and a Sony SA-WM500 sub.  I am trying to set up a good 2.1 or maybe 3.1 surround mostly for watching movies and TV. Will my HK 146 be enough power and give me a good realistic surround sound ?  What do you gurus think of my setup for a newbie?

  Thanks

         Tom

your receiver will be fine unless you've got a gymnasium sized room.

Thanks for the response. Will the audio work and soundgood with just hdmi or should I do it some other way.  I read that you had to use some other ay to get good audio.  Do you have any advice on how to set this up?

        Thanks

            Tom

That's an older HDMI receiver which doesn't process HDMI audio. so you'll need to also connect an optical or digital coax cable for audio.

What devices are you going to be connecting to it?

As long as your Xbox and laptop also have an optical out for audio you'll be fine. If not then connect those devices directly to the Samsung TV with HDMI and then run an optical cable from the Samsung TV to your HK receiver for audio.

Your receiver will be fine and will deliver all the power you need unless,as stated earlier, you are watching movies in a gymnasium.

Cheers
