I'm having a heck of a time deciding what I want to do. My current setup is a 5.1

Denon 2113CI
Ascend Acoustics 340SE - LCR
Ascend Acoustics HTM 200SE - SL and SR
PSA XV15
PS3

I will be buying an Oppo 103 and another XV15 very soon.

When the Ascend Acoustics Sierra 2s come out, hopefully this month, I will be getting a pair of those to replace the 340SE along with a matching center channel.

I will also upgrade to 7 channels, but that won't happen until maybe next year.

I have a 3k budget for a new receiver or separates.

Any suggestions?

Anthem MRX 510

I should mention I am 60/40 in favor of music versus movies

You could do a lot things for $3k. I like and own separates - but not necessarily because it sounds better - I can't really tell. I don't have the 'golden ear syndrome' that seems to be common on some forums. Its because I cannot stand having one or three or five amp channels idle when I'm listening to 2 channel. And thats about 95% of my listening. I use a stereo preamp that has home theater bypass - keeps the AVR off.

When all else fails - RTFM!

Ya I guess that's what I'm wondering. Do separates in that price range, or any range for that matter, sound better than an all in one.

Does anyone know if something like the new Anthem receivers or Cambridge Audio or Marantz provide a significant upgrade to what I have now?

What would provide a noticeable upgrade if you want to stick with Audyssey is upgrading to the new Marantz 7008 (9.2) with Audyssey MultEQ XT32 which has a 32x higher speaker EQ filter resolution and 4x higher sub EQ filter resolution than does the XT in your Denon 2113CI. It also features Audyssey Sub EQ HT for dual subwoofers.
