I'm looking to upgrade my Onkno HC-RC470 to an amp that can use seperate amps at a latter date. I have wired my HT room that I'm building for 11.4, if that helps at all.

Not a lot out there with 11 channels right now. If you want to go with an AVR you will need to look at the higher models of Denon, Onkyo, Marantz and Yamaha all of which range from $1500 to over $3000. Crutchfield has the Yamaha RX-A3020 which has 9.2 channels at 150 watts pc for $1500 right now at Crutchfield.

The upper models have the pre-outs so you can go to separate amps down the road if that's where you want to go.

Currently, all I have is a 7.2 system. What I'm planning on doing it upgrading my amp sometime in the early in the new year. So what I plan on doing is getting an amp that can support 11 channels and I will just add an amp to upgrade the system after I get more speakers. I'm just not sure what combo of AVR and amps to look at.

Here are some questions that should be answered before anyone can give you any solid advice.

1. What's your budget?

2. How large is the room?

3. How will you be using your system? What percentages will be movies, music, games?

My budget is $2000-3000.
The room is 13x30, but the HT only is in the first 19 feet as the rest of the room narrows to 10 feet

When you say an amp that supports 11 channels do you mean a pre amp that supports 11 channels and then you plan on adding power amps as needed as you buy the speakers to add more channels? Because if you have a pre amp to which you will connect your power amps then you won't need an AVR.

Yamaha has the CX A5000, a 11.2 pre amp listing for $2,499.

Marantz has the AV 8801 a 11.2 pre amp listing for $3,599.

Looking back at my other post, I'm sure why I asked how large your HT room was or how you were going to use it, I guess I thought we were also talking about your entire system but you were only asking about amps and AVRs.

That is correct. So, if I was to buy one of those two pre amps, what amps would I require to run my current 7.2 system?

That depends on your budget and how much power you want to run. Just a few names in popular power amp manufacturers are:

Parasound

Outlaw

Emotiva

Wyred4sound

I would visit their websites and see what amps you think you might like.

Not sure. I guess that depends on who you talk to. That is certainly one way to do it.
