I have Focal 836 mains that are driven by an Emotiva XPA-2, medium sized Polk center channel, 2 Polk rears, plus a 12" Velodyne sub. 70% Music, 30% Movies.
It is time to finally retire the Denon 3805 that I bought new in 2005. She has served me well. Besides being outdated, my only complaint is that it has never given me the bass from my mains that I wanted.
My new receiver's amp will ONLY power the center channel and rears, so I am not overly concerned with the receivers amp section. However, I want as high quality sound as possible for under $1,500, and I do run my music -LOUD-. All my music is on a hard drive, streaming ability/quality is very important. I watch a LOT of live music concert Blu Rays. All receivers in this price range seem to have all the HD audio formats covered (for movies), and have all the HDMI in/outs that I need.
I've only been researching for a week now, coming back up to speed. The Denon X-4000 is on the short list. I'm learning about the Yamaha AVENTAGE line, but still in the dark there.
For over a decade, I've come here to learn what piece of gear I should buy, and you guys have never let me down. Thank you in advance for your advice, opinions, and thoughts.
