I've read a lot of negative reviews for the app for controlling Marantz receivers and wondering if people here have the same frustrations.  I'm considering getting a 6008 or 7007 for a high end Paradigm speaker system.  While the app wouldn't be the major deciding factor, it is a real nice touch.  Any thoughts on this?

You may want to try using AVR-Remote instead which is much more highly regarded.

I'm shopping my first receiver and though I like the marantz I am considering a yamaha because the ap control is pretty critical to my setup. The receiver will be upstairs while zone two is downstairs. Wiring zone two will not be easy and then there is the cost of the speakers. Naturally I don't want this to go to waste. Am I paranoid or is the yamaha a wise choice?

Yamaha's control app is vastly, vastly superior in every way to denon/marantz. Although, they are supposed to release a new app sometime

How do you know about this new ?land where can I get more info. I'm ready to pull the trigger and I can't just hope it works out. I am aware that many people use a third party app that is more reliable but I also hear it is 'simple' so not sure it would work my zone 2 well enough.

I agree...bought Yamaha RX-479 and Denon AVR-S710W. The Denon app is SLOW and doesn't allow easy multitasking switching between dlna music streaming and adjusting receiver settings. So I tried my usual streaming app bubbleupnp, the receiver appears sluggish in general response. For this reason, I regretfully axed Marantz from my purchase list, since they share the same app.

My only gripe with the Yamaha is the music app or receiver display doesn't show the playback time? Unbelievable omission. The Denon is going back...shame I like the way it looked better haha.

The Denon and Marantz AVRs use separate apps. A newer version for both iDevice and Android for each brand is set to be released early 2016.

I'll have to admit, I've never seen a company's phone app be the deciding factor in purchasing audio equipment before...
I'd go Yamaha due to their reported better reliability (which is my current plan, actually)

It's why I switched to Yamaha from marantz! Night and day difference in favor of Yamaha.

Thanks for the information, but they look similar to me just different skin. Not sure I can wait until 2016 to find out.

Even onkyo's app is much netter than denon, it is unacceptable for a major avr player not to have a decent app out in the age of networking.

Then I'm going to the extreme. Yamaha 773 from accessories4less. $30 more for Marantz 1605. So sad. So so sad.

Who cares what the brand's own app does when there are good alternatives, as the AVR-Remote app JD linked to works well.

Do you have experience with the AVR remote? As I said I hear it is a simple app so I don't know if it will give me good control over my second zone.

+1 on Yamaha remote app. Best one I have ever used. It just works; features and layout of the app is very well designed.

Just downloaded AVR remote and 1605 is not listed. Not sure if I could select 1604 or have to use "generic".

I have been using a 2013 Denon model with my newer Denon AVRs without any issues. Using the NR1604 should get you most (if not all) of the functionality you need.

Good to hear however it looks like the AVR-remote is not available on kindle fire which is my wife's tablet. Also, just called Marantz and support guy says nothing has been released about rolling out new apps and does not know where that information is coming from. Said if it is true it should be on their website.

Will that work on the Kindle fire too? This is talking about the new $50 tablet they have not necessarily the fully functional fire hdx tablet.

I have the app and use it, worked better than Denon's own app which I tried initially when I got my 4520 and never looked back. Seems to do anything I want as far as controlling the avr, and does it even better than the direct IP access on my pc (altho no zone 4 on the app, whereas IP access provides that).

What is good control over a second zone, what is it you need the app to do? I don't have a second zone in operation yet so no experience there but it appears to offer the same functionality judging from the menu/options...

Play music from various sources. When reading reviews of the app the are so many complaints about glitches and hiccups. It doesn't seem to be any one thing. I know how my wife will react to trying to change songs or internet stations and whatnot.
