Verifying research:

 

my system:

HTPC outputting DTS/DD directly to my YAMAHA RX-V3800 (Receiver shows DTS/DD when playing) without enhancements

Attached to:

Data from Spec sheets

Klipsch Icon WF-35 Floor Speakers (highs and 3x5.25" mids) 45-20k HZ (Bi-Amped) 

Klipsch Icon WC-24 Center                                                  65-23k HZ  

Klipsch Icon WS-24 Surround                                               63-23k HZ 

Polk PWS505 Subwoofer 125 HZ max

 

in a 5.1 Format.

 

 

so, from what i have read:

Set all speakers to small due to having a Dedicated Sub

Set Sub crossover to 120HZ on both the sub and the receiver unless you get localization then lower  to taste.

set center/surround speakers to 80hz crossover.

any errors or misconceptions? additional suggestions/recommendations appreciated.

 

Edit:

YPAO(Yamaha Parametric Room Acoustic Optimizer) settings:

Front and Center speakers : Large

Crossover: 60hz

 

 

from what i gather setting Front speakers to large and the crossover to 60hz would output lower frequencies to both the sub and the front speakers providing additional Umph if desired.

 

Or does it just send downto 60 to the fronts and below 60 to the sub?

Setting a speaker to "Small" = enable bass management -- which diverts frequencies below 60Hz from the "Small" speakers to the subwoofer.
Setting a speaker to "Large" = disable bass management -- which does not divert any frequencies to the subwoofer.

You need to enable the Bass Out setting "Both" if you want the low frequencies below the crossover setting to be sent to "Large" front speakers and to the subwoofer. See page 92 of the owner's manual. This can result in what's called "Bass Bloat" because of the way low frequencies interact with one another and with the room.

Set all speakers to "small".

Set the crossovers for each channel (or channel pair) to 80Hz. (You can also experiment with setting the crossover for the main speakers to 60Hz.)

If it's not defaulted to 120Hz, set the LPF of LFE (the "crossover" for the LFE channel) to 120Hz.
