It's a 5.1 set I got on sale on Halloween. I will be getting two more Satellite Speakers to make it 7.1: http://www.monoprice.com/Category?c_id=109&cp_id=10906 (Maybe down the line I will add another Sub for 7.2 which a simple RCA splitter should don for that.... Maybe as it may be overkill since this will be my room which is not that big. LOL!)

Kinda a noob to this. Been awhile lol.

I was going to get the Yamaha RX-V573BL for $288.88 but had heard many people say Audyssey was the thing to get in an Audio Receiver. That and I believe the Watt output would have been too high.

I ordered the Onkyo TX-NR616 as it was on sale for around $300 and got the extra two year warranty for $12.

I was like oh cool Audyssey and then realized  it was 2EQ (no auto-tuning sub) and not MultEQ (which does) after it shipped. Ugh.

Then I also found a Denon AVR-1913 for $300 with free shipping: http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/DENAVR1913/DENON-AVR-1913-7.1ch-Home-Theater-Receiver-w/AirPlay-3D-ready/1.html however it's only 90 watts per channel and these Speakers recommend 100 which the Onkyo is.

So manually tuning the Sub shouldn't be that difficult? THX Select2 Plus sounds cool. The Onkyo TX-NR616 is the #1 bestseller on accessories4less.com

I can just update the firmware and read up on how to manually tune the Sub. It shouldn't be that difficult right? Should I give it a few days of testing before coming to a conclusion? Then if the Receiver does not perform how I'd like see if the Denon AVR-1913 is still available?

Or just return it and get the Denon AVR-1913 asap? Which the lack of 10watts per channel shouldn't be an issue?

I want to keep the budget below $330. I had just got the Onkyo TX-NR616 Yesterday. Since it's Friday I might as well just hook it up and mess with it. I know to upgrade the firmware first as I heard about the problems this had with previous firmware versions.

Forget about matching speaker watts to receiver watts. I have front L/R speakers that can handle 500 watts. My HK990 'only' delivers 300wpc into 4ohms.

Onkyo has continuing HDMI problems. I think most people here will agree with that assessment of current Onkyo products.

FWIW there is nothing wrong with Yamaha's YPAO room correction software.
I have an Audyssey MultEQ XT receiver in the bedroom and a Yamaha powered YPAO setup in the living room. Both are quite good.

I've been an Onkyo fan for years but I can't recommend them. Yamaha and Denon are IMO the top two brands lately.

When all else fails - RTFM!

Hi Crow550, Fry's has the Denon AVR-E400 (which replaced the Denon 1913) on sale for $300. This is a in store sale so if no Fry's is near, try to order by calling 877-688-7678.

I like acc4less have used them multiple times. There is a good deal on an onkyo there to its a 7.2 and I know that the Monoprice speaker set you want can be had with to extra sounds for cheap, and this thing gives room to grow.

I already have the TX-NR616. I am just wondering if I should keep it or send it back and get something better.

Since it's the weekend I have till Monday to figure if I should return this or hold on to it.

I heard the latest firmware fixes the HDMI issues of this model and other issues that we're heavily complained about. However I'd have to tune the Sub woofer something I have never done before.

I will give Fry's a call and if they will ship it to me or match the deal with the site I will then consider going with them. Now I'm debating if I should even open the box and try this. So far signs point to just returning it and going with a Denon with MultEQ.

I can't get the Yamaha I posted about in my previous post as the sale is over with that model.

Here's a more in depth look at the Speakers: http://reviews.cnet.com/surround-speaker-systems/monoprice-10565/4505-7868_7-35826981.html

You can have Best Buy price match (just have them call Fry's), that's what I did.

*Face palm* Why did I never think of that with Frys ads?

I called BestBuy and they do have it in stock at my local store as the website glitches out I guess. They will only price match within 25 miles.

I went to the store instead of calling, better chance.

Another option if still wanting it from Best Buy is try calling 1-888-BEST BUY or 1-888-237-8289 for a match request and request for store pick up.

Well I gotta get this sent back anyways. I did call an 888 number. So I could try BestBuy in person. Not a fan but I could see if they will price match it. Otherwise I'll just have Fry's ship it.

Thanks for all your help. :)

In a nutshell all I want is to enjoy surround sound and have everything be calibrated properly. Every other feature is just icing.

FYI, Amazon at this time just drop the Denon AVR-E400 to match Fry's price.

How did you get Amazon to match it? It also looks like Fry's has pulled the receive from their product listing. I saw it about 15 minutes ago, but couldn't check store availability for some reason. I want to buy this even if I have to drive 2 hours to get it from the Fry's closest to me.

Best Buy wouldn't price match it unfortunately. They have to have an ad that lists the brand and model. Fry's ad doesn't list it, just shows a picture and gives features. Other than going directly to Fry's (2 hours away) what are my options? Sorry to hi-jack this thread, but wasn't sure where to go for these questions.

Call the 877 like JChin suggested. Fry.com will match the local store price and offer free shipping.

It seems Amazon.com was having some special Denon deal.

For BestBuy you could ask them to call Frys and confirm the model in the ad. If they are gonna be jerks and don't want your business then don't do business with them. BestBuy seems to prove time and time again that they are the worst.... Sorry to rant.

Seems like Frys.com is your last hope until another deal pops up.

Just called fry's and they said it's in-store only - they won't ship it. I have the worst luck getting anything like this to go my way.

You just call and say since the closest Frys is a 2 hour drive can you please match the Stores price for the Denon AVR-E400 on sale for $300? If they give you any guff then say well why is it I know others who have said you match local store prices?

They we're gonna do it for me. You either explained it wrong or got a jerk on the phone, maybe the person was new.... It's only a week in-store sale. Fry.com should match the local Stores sale. All else fails talk to someone else....

Try again: 1-877-688-7678. Best of luck. ;)

Darn. Guess I just got lucky. Maybe you have to do it the first day the ad come out or something.

I did a test call and they we're about do it then changed it and was like no sorry first come first serve basis at local stores only.

Just thought I'd share my additional experiences dealing with Best Buy and price matching. I went to a store that's halfway between me and the Fry's that's about 2 hours away to get the price match, but they wouldn't match it because it's not a "local" store - meaning it's not within a 25 mile radius. The Fry's is 43 miles away from this store. So 18 miles makes all the difference apparently. Needless to say Best Buy sucks. I'm warding all of my family and friends off of them - I'll support Brick and Mortar stores when they get their heads out of their asses and pay attention to the customer instead of just their bottom line. Apparently honoring their guarantee isn't part of doing decent business.

After I told him I drove an hour one way to get to Best Buy (I live in a rural area) he was still implacable.

I have heard it said friends don't let friends go to best buy, or big lye as in a strongly alkaline solution. They well tell you just about anything to make a sale. I have been following the thread just to see were you go. Take the suggestion I posted a week or so ago and go to acc4less, get a good deal without the run around. I have a both stores just 10 minutes and Fry's seems to sell a lot of refurbished product to and have you ever returned anything there.

I will definitely consider acc4less - I browsed their selection and their prices on refurb products are alright (a little higher than expected). I'll probably just hold out for another sale on the E300. I don't really need the upconvert feature anyway and I don't plan to run a 7.1 system. I'm going to move my last non-HDMI device to another room I think.

I rarely go to Best Buy. I mean rarely. As the Best Buy name always seems to be an oxymoron. I hear if you catch clearance or referb deals they can be okay. However with all the horror stories you can read about them.... Why bother? They use to be pretty good for dvds and such. Years ago but not anymore....

They are on death watch of going bankrupt.

Check on Friday mornings. That's when the weekly ad comes out.

It'll be on sale again for $299 you just have to be patient. The e300 usually goes on sale for $199 first, then the e400 for $299 the following week.

I'm in a similar boat OP. I'm looking for a new receiver to replace my Dad's old kenwood with no HDMI support. Trying to spend $300 or even less if possible. They have a 5.1 setup but could easily expand to 7.1 (just bought them some new polk speakers). Initially almost jumped on the black friday Yamaha RX-V673 for $299 but wasn't sure at the time I was going to go thru with this whole upgrade for them (but ended up grabbing that 70" Vizio LED and now some Polk monitors, only thing missing is receiver). I personally own an Onkyo HT-RC270 and have been super happy with it, so I was looking at the TX-NR616 on amazon for $319 or ac4l for $299. Denon E400 was in the running but didn't really like the speaker connections and lack of inputs (Onkyo 616 has quite a bit more connectivity and my dad still has a bunch of old audio eqp he won't get rid of). Altho I'm used to the Audessy MultiEQ with my RC270, not sure how different the 2EQ will do other than what I read online and not having the subwoofer tuning. Yamaha? Denon? Pioneer? Onkyo??? Ugh what to do what to do! Time is running out before Christmas!!!
