Yes, the ATV would be an excellent Airplay solution and actually better for two reasons ....(1) You can stream video as well as audio to it, and (2) there is no hijacking of the main zone when passing Airplay to Zone 2 speakers.

Thanks jdsmoothie, bought one today and a friend will bring it to me next week. How would I connect it? Ethernet on the ATV to Ethernet port on the router and ATV HDMI to an input on the receiver with HDMI? Network input would fall out of use, right? Also, no automatic powering on of 1713 when playing a song on an AirPlay device, if I understand correctly? What would be best setup in your opinion? I would only use ATV for music as a start because I have a Popcorn Hour media player hooked to the receiver and i can stream video content using that, but maybe ATV has an app missing on the Popcorn Hour that I like, sure. But to regain my AirPlay music streaming to the receiver and the best setup for that purpose is my main concern.

^^
AFAIK, the ATV cannot be setup as a wireless router (rather you would need the Airport Express for this), rather you would just connect it via HDMI to the AVR and stream Airplay to it.

Thanks, so I would have to look for a vacant input with HDMI to connect ATV and discontinue use of the Network input, right?

Correct, although I thought that was the whole point.
