Hey Guys,

I am in the process of researching / purchasing a new receiver. Right now I am using my Onkyo TX-SR605 that I have had for several years. The Onkyo has been pretty good to me with no issues so far. (May have a zone 2 issues but haven't traced it yet)

While this Onkyo has been good, I know that there have been some issues with the new ones?

So, for what ever reason I'm leaning towards a new Denon. (people seems to really like them)

My budget is $400 - $600 but I might could go slightly higher ($75)

Main goals are: (not necessarily in this order)
7.1 or higher
Powered zone 2
True HD
DTS-HD
3D
I really like the Audyssey (newer)
I really like networking and or airplay

Models I'm looking at. (Using Amazon's pricing)

Denon - AVR-E400
Denon - AVR-1912 , 1913
Denon - AVR-2113CI
Denon - AVR-2313CI

Yamaha - RX-V673, V675

Onkyo ? (Usually more features for the money) (issues?)

Marantz ? (Know nothing about)

Harman Kardon ? (Know nothing about)

Note:
The reason I'm using Amazon pricing is because I have a couple gift cards.

I am not against using Accessories 4 less. ( Then Denon X-3000 looks really nice but the very top of my budget )

Any opinions please.

Thanks for your help.

EDIT: I left out Sony. They seem to be pretty good lately? But I don't typically think of them as higher end?

Bump. Anyone?

Right now I'm thinking the Denon 2113 ?

But the x3000 looks nice on accessories for less. But it only has a 1 year warranty vs a 3 year.

Help would be appreciated.

IMO, the Denon AVR-X2000 for $649, shipped, at Amazon.com.

AC4L is a very reputable company (actually located about 5 miles from me) and have been recommended for refurb sales on the forum for many years. The issues to consider purchasing a refurb:

(1) No guarantee it will not be defective
(2) No guarantee it will be without marks or scratches
(3) As it only comes with a 1 year warranty, you would definitely want to purchase an extended warranty to at least cover the 3 years that a new in box model would cost so that adds to the total cost

Ok cool, yup something to think about.

Should I get a noticeable sound quality upgraded switching from the Onkyo 605 to the x2000, x3000 or the 2113?

Yup. In addition to using the lowest version of Audyssey 2EQ which has 16x fewer speaker EQ control points than MultEQ XT used in those Denon models, it also cannot EQ the subwoofer.

More warranty info ....

Yes, the refurb X3000 from accessories4less.com is cheaper than the X2000 from Amazon.com, but the X2000 has the features you're looking for, it's new w/ three-year warranty and it comes in under your budget max of $675.

Just a thought...

Ok, it seems the x series is what people prefer.

Is it much better than the 2113?

X2000 Vs. 2113 I guess is what I'm asking.

The 2113 will come in under budget and I might could swing some new back surrounds or save on a new sub?

My sub is pretty cheap.

And once again thank you all for the help. Happy Saturday. cheers

Dank

Lol I knew that was going to be the answer.

Ok so on Amazon the x2000 is at the very top of my budget. Do you guys recommend that one over any other say $500 receiver. It would be nice if I could spend slightly less on a receiver so that I could put some cash into new back speakers.

But if the x2000 is the way to go then ill bit the bullet.

Why don't you pm JDSmoothie and get a price on the X2000 from him at AVScience. I did and got a X4000 today at a super deal. Talk to him directly and you can get a lot of specialized info tailored to your specific application and budget too. I highly recommend JD!

Hey JD,

I have a question for you. (Or anyone that can help)

I hope I can go to BB this week and listen to the x2000 but one of the main reasons I wanted a new receiver is due to true HD and DTS-HD formats. We'll come to find out my Onkyo does do these two formats.

For some reason I have never seen my receiver display this. I only ever see PCM on the display? For years I used my PS3 as my player but it bit the dust and now I'm using my Samsung 6900.

Anyway, I would assume that any new receiver should still sound better than my 6 year old Onkyo?

And have a better picture?

Thanks

The PS3 was set to LPCM instead of "bitstream"; however, it was still passing the HD audio codecs.
