Hi all,

I recently got a yamaha rxv575 amplifier and currently have the cable box, blue ray player connected to it via HDMI and I also have my cd player connected to an av port via optical.

In this setup would it be impossible to watch TV (muted) while listening to music? Previously I did this on my really old amp but I was running only the audio to the amp and video to the tv separately as it didn't have HDMI inputs.

Now when I switch to the AV output via the remote my screen goes black but the music sounds great...

Just wanted to make sure there's no way to somehow view a video input with different audio? I suppose HDMI makes this impossible?

Actually you can do this. You'll need to read the manual! Assigning analog inputs to an HDMI video is all you need to do. You won't be able to use the digital feed from your CD player - use the analog output from the CD player to the AVR.

When all else fails - RTFM!
