Guys,

Can really use your help....

I own a Denon 2807. However my speakers are older than that and now done. Sold at garage sale.

I just bought a new 60 inch Samsung Plasma. Smart/3d. It came with a samsung blue ray also. I know however the 2807 doesn't do 3d. I do not see myself using the 3d however.

I need to figure out what to so with my remaining 500 budget?

Do I just get home theater in a box from Best buy?

Do I buy a speaker package for 500?

Do I buy just 2 nice speakers and wait?

I need some advice guys?

What is more important the AV or the Speakers.

Matt

Speakers.

When trying to get good sound, quality speakers and room acoustics make the most difference. Electronics are secondary, although automated room EQ (as provided by Audyssey in your current AVR) can help a lot if room treatments are not an option.

Agree with Selden. Your 2807 uses Audyssey MultEQ XT which is quite good, so pick up a pair of quality speakers and start saving for a sub next followed by a center speaker.

Hey guys was at best buy this afternoon looking for speakers. The sales guy showed me 5.1 system for 799
http://m.bestbuy.com/m/e/product/detail.jsp?skuId=8206201&pid=1177718655876&pcatId=abcat0205004

During our convo he told me that the biggest issue with my denon 2807 is that it doesn't provide 1080p. So he recommended the following.

Run my hdmi from my comcast box to my plasma and then an optical cable to my Denon.

I currently run my cable box to my denon and then my Denon to my tv.

He said it will make my plasma look horrible.

What is your guys thoughts?

Matt

No need to repost. Being new, you need to wait to have your posts approved if you include links.

That said. Your 2807 supports 1080p video. There is no reason you couldn't run your cable box through the Denon like before. That said, your 2807 will not support 3D.

Don't know much about it, if it's good or bad but it came with the tv.

In the player settings, set the audio to PCM since the 2807 doesn't decode Dolby TrueHD or DTS-MA. Setting the player to PCM will allow your BD player to decode the audio and send it to the Denon. You shouldn't have any problems.

That guy was totally wrong. I've got a 2807 and it passes 1080p just fine. Before I took the receiver to my father's house I had it hooked up at home with my 50" Panny Plasma and a Panny BDT-220 blu ray player. No problems at all with 1080p video.

The 2807 remote is a little annoying but a Harmony remote takes care of that problem.

The limitations of the 2807 are that it doesn't decode TrueHD and DTS-MA, wont pass a 3D signal and only has 2 HDMI inputs. But you can let the player do the decoding. If the limited number in HDMI inputs and lack of 3D pass through don't matter then you should be fine.

Sorry. I don't have a Samsung Plasma. The settings I gave you should work without problems. If you have specific questions about the BD-F5900 there is a thread here:

Thanks guys so yes or no.

Should I go

Box to tv

Or run it trough the Denon. It sounds like your saying that the Denon handle 1080p just fine so run it through the Denon.

Since I will be using two hdmi more chance to have issues. What hdmi cables do most peoe recommend around here?

run it thru the receiver.

Get your HDMI and other cables at monoprice.com. Best bang for the buck. Get the high speed HDMI cables in whatever colors suit you best.
http://www.monoprice.com/Category?c_id=102&cp_id=10240&cs_id=1024008

and since you have no speakers that should be your next purchase.

I have the same receiver in my game room and recently upgraded my speakers. I had Infinity TSS1100 speakers and upgraded to the Pioneer Andrew Jones series that Best Buy sells...

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olstemplatemapper.jsp?_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&_dynSessConf=-6603059729510965581&id=pcat17071&type=page&ks=960&st=categoryid%24abcat0205000&sc=Global&cp=1&sp=-bestsellingsort+skuidsaas&qp=brand_facet%3DBrand%7EPioneer%5Esoldby_facet%3DSAAS%7ESold+By%7EBest+Buy&list=y&usc=All+Categories&nrp=15&fs=saas&iht=n&seeAll=

They sound absolutely amazing with the Denon receiver. The Definitive Techs will sound good with movies but I would really recommend the Pioneers for movies, games, AND music. Great sound. The only thing I didn't get was the sub. I have a Velodyne impact 12 but with the money you will save on the Pioneers you could easily add a better sub. BB will match prices from Amazon now too. Good luck...
