I am helping a friend upgrade an older system in his house. It is 2 channel audio only, no video. He has a nice 2 channel amp driving 3 sets of speakers in his upstairs bedroom and balcony. It is driven by a separate preamp and fed with a cd changer and am/fm tuner. I am looking to get rid of the cd changer, tuner and preamp and replace them with a preamp that has Airplay. My first thought was to buy a cheap AV receiver and use the zone 2, but I understand that some units have issues when outputting airplay sources to zone 2. I have settled on the Yamaha RX-V775WA, but this seems like a lot of hardware to basically stream Airplay content and control the volume. SO the question there something out there that fits my needs without over-buying a bunch of stuff I do not need. Ease of use is the #1 priority.

If you just want airplay, then an AppleTV or airport express (the AppleTV supports video, while the airport express is audio only) will suffice as the only thing you need...
