Yes.

Looking to buy my first receiver and was eyeing this line.  Can somebody explain to me the "dual zone" feature of these models, specifically the 577 and 677?  Is Zone B a true audio out or is it just a speaker out?  I want to feed my receiver into a multi-zone controller so that I can just hook all devices up to receiver and then have the option to play audio from them all to the rest of the house.

I was told the 577 wouldn't allow for this because Zone B is just a speaker out, but I haven't been able to get good confirmation on the 677.  Would I be able to accomplish outputting audio from receiver into a MZC with the 677?

The 677 is a step up. It has true dual zone. Zone 2 independent stereo is limited to only a few types of input. Airplay won't play zone 2 but windows media player will. 777 steps up to party or room sharing mode. Only way digital inputs will play in zone 2.

Thank you kik, very helpful. Playing airplay via zone 2 is a must so I'm greatful you mentioned that. So will airplay play zone 2 on the 777 model?

I'll also ask, are there any other models that accomplish what I want, have dual zone feature where I can stream airplay via zone 2? I was looking to spend under $600, but not sure if that's doable.

Airplay will play fine in zone 1 and both zones at the same time just fine. When using zone 2 independent of zone 1 none of the newer Yamaha receivers will do airplay. Even the 3030. As far as I can tell only the 773/673/7065 & 6065 models (2012) allow airplay independent to zone 2. I have the 773 and confirmed it will do 5.1 hdmi in the main zone while playing airplay in stereo zone 2. WMP in server mode is a simple workaround. Basically the same thing except it may not work with apple? All the models with network and 2 zones will send analog, tuner, usb and network connections like internet radio, Pandora, spotify and wmp server mode for mp3's/flac in stereo independent to zone 2.

I have a yamaha 477, samsung 65h8000, oppo 103 bluray player and a tivo.

I can't for the life of me figure out how to use one remote to the the receiver on.

The closest I got was when I turn the tv off they all go off.

Any ideas on how to use one remote to turn on the receiver? I have hdmi control set to on

Hi All, can I play spotify connect to zone 2 independently? I know it says it can play network sources independently but I just needed to confirm. Thanks in advance.

Either using 677 or 777 model.

Since they are brand new based on the manual only airplay won't play independent zone 2 from network inputs. Note on page 81 777 manual.

arrived and set up, is there normally a day 1 firmware upgrade? I'm not seeing it on the yamaha site, nor am i seeing the option on the GUI. maybe i need a combo of keys/buttons to trigger it.

There better not be a day 1 upgrade. For what?

Day 1 firmware update...like the Xbox1 or ps4. It doesn't appear so though

Also, I can't seem to find the menu to rename the inputs on the screen on the receiver...just says hdmi1 while the app says my custom name.

Receivers don't release a firmware upgrade until something is found to be messed up. That takes a while and on these
Yamaha so well developed you may never see one. That is a good thing.

Page 90 of the manual explains how to rename inputs. A hidden menu found by selecting the input and cursor arrow up.
A submenu pops up with rename/icon select included.

The RX-V677 and RX-V777BT are the only models from yamaha that support HDMI 2.0
I don't believe this is true. Seems like the other models support it with 4K passthrough. But the 677 and up have 4K upscaling.

Question Worth upgrading?

I am currently having a Yamaha RX-V750 and I am considering upgrading to the RX-V777, as I can get it with a 25% discount.

Do you reckon it would make much of a difference sound-wise for me?

I listen to music (pop/rock) and watch a lot of movies. I am having these speakers:
Front: JBL ES 100
Sub: JBL ES250P
Center: JBL ES25C
Satellites: JBL ES10

Any feedback would be appreciated!

Let us know your thoughts.

Only issue I have so far is that it turns on both zones every time I turn it on.

These VX Yamahas have been consistently well reviewed for the past couple years.
Last year it got bashed for being difficult to use and a terrible remote control (especially at Cnet).
Anyone know if 2014's models addressed these issues?

Also is there a compelling reason to step up form the 477 to 577? I will be running a 5.1 setup.

Btw, in my research I saw a couple places that say only the 677 and 777 have HDMI 2.0.
The lower models pass thorough 4k, but only the top models can support 4k @ 60hz.

Edit: I just noticed that the 675 is going for the same price as the 577 right now. That almost seems like a good idea to buy last year's model. I can hardly find a difference between the 677 and 675.

Wink

I think the only big difference from the x75 x77 series on the lower ones(ie 3,4,5) is the CINEMA FRONT- which probably no one here would use anyway..

Yeah. Doing more research I forgot to check the specs. I've got 4 ohm speakers. Looks like the Yamaha is probably a poor choice. Back to the drawing board.

No one can know your needs/wants and price points, but I think paying for HDMI 2.0 is more than worth it as of June 2014.

I didn't quite have enough time set mine up yet, but just out curiosity, did you use the YPAO calibration\setup? If so, did you like what it did?
