Hello,

I'm looking for an affordable Preamp or Equalizer that can boost the bass to my powered monitors when needed.

I'd like to keep it under $300.00.

That was my original thought but many say $300.00 can't buy a musical sub.

You can't buy an electronic circuit that will make small speakers work like large speakers at any price.

I'm not looking for a device to make my small speakers sound like big speakers.

I just want to boost the bass for some DVDS/BDs where the soundtrack music is weak much like I do with my car stereo.

Yes, but the bass on a $300 "non-musical" sub will still sound better than $300 in electronics to boost a speaker that can't handle bass at all. If you insist on electronics then most any AVR with EQ can do what you want.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

My speakers go down to 50hz and sound great with most movies.
However there's the odd movie where the soundtrack is weak (FEARLESS VAMPIRE KILLERS) and I would like to boost the bass to make it sound closer to the good sounding discs.

I should say I mainly buy older films where I'm lucky if they're in stereo and live in a apartment where I can't rattle the walls if I wanted too (I don't).
That would be my main concern about getting a sub.

About the MiniDSP ...it was already suggested so I looked it up but I need something I can turn the bass up and down and hopefully bypass most of the time.
Thanks for the suggestion though! smile.gif

I'll definitely check out the sub recommended along with the HSU STF-1

Yes you said that before. You want small speakers to behave like large speakers. Electronics don't do that. Larger speakers and subwoofers do that.

Many people say just about anything.

$300 can buy subs that will improve the sound of most small monitor speakers. For example, these:

Acoustech PL 200

BIC America F16

Don't tell me what I want!mad.gif

I want the movie FEARLESS VAMPIRE KILLERS BD to sound as good (or closer to) my PHANTOM OF THE OPERA BD.

I just want to adjust the bass like ANY preamp can do...what's your problem?

Thanks Aryk,

BIC gets lots of great reviews so if I get a subwoofer i'll definitely check it out along with the HSU.

I think I'll go to a chain store and buy the best 6-10 inch I can find to just try it out.

I didn't. You told me what you wanted. So go boost the bass. What's your problem?

Are you for real?

You told me I want my little speakers to sound like big speakers...which is insulting and wrong.

You do realize all recordings aren't the same...yes?
Well, I want to tweak a crappy sounding BD...nothing more.

I'm looking for some recommendations for a PreAmp or Equalizer ...after all they do serve a purpose in sound...no?.
