You might have seen on the spec that that rated power is continuous power, all channels driven, and at the specified THD (e.g. 0.03%) from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. Usually they also list the dynamic power that is available momentarily; then you see more power output to decreasing resistances. Note that usually amps are rated at 1% THD @ 1 kHz, though usually to all, or at the lower end only to two channels simultaneously. Please see the NAD's article on their quite long standing stance on amplifier specs: Full Disclosure Power.

In regards to the speculated Audyssey debacle on the up-coming NAD M17 I just saw their new Master Series brochure.

As you can see - no mention of XT32! If it had that they'd market it?!

And yet their marketing team express the following in the closing word... allow me to roll my eyes!

| NAD M17 (a/v processor & DAC)
| NAD M27 (multichannel poweramp)
KEN KREISEL Q125 / DXD-12012 (5.1 speaker system)
OPPO BDP-103D (blu-ray player)

Actually, as part of their online press-release there was mention of the following: "Included is a free upgrade to our next generation VM300 MDC Video Module when it becomes available early next year and including a mature implementation of HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2." (source: www.ecoustics.com)

So that part (if applicable) bodes well at least.

That is not even MultEQ XT.............not even the XT Version............I really don't understand. Anyone like me would not flinch at the extra cost to have THE most advanced Platinum version.

We don't know that yet. They only mention Audyssey MultEQ, which could mean XT or XT32.
Would be really foolish of NAD to not include the latter though, I'm sure we all agree.

In a months time or so we should know for sure.

They mention the lowest of the three Audyssey versions........MultEQ...........then comes MultEQ XT, MultEQ XT32.

I would expect them to ship with what they have said............. MultEQ.

Highly unlikely.

The M15 came with MultEQ XT so they won't downgrade. That'd be utter stupidity.
They can still just name it MultEQ in their early marketing material - it's simply what version we are unaware of as of yet.

Wondering how anyone could possibly answer that for you?
Perhaps wait til the M27 is out, for possible reviews and/or owners feedback to get an idea.

I am currently looking to replace my Krell Showcase 7 amp. I am under the impression the M25 is a Class A amp but cant find that info. Isnt going from a Class A amp to a Class D amp a downgrade in sound quality in openess, definition and seperation?

Class D has been making a strong come on. Are we at a point where digital and Class A, A/b are now creating 2 tiers of top end amps with the older tech Class A becoming the cream of the crop? Benefit of Class D is less heat generated so you can put more power in a smaller box without the heat penalty of Class Amp circuitry.

Very tough choice, new M27 or a new, discontinued M25

Which one sounds better!?!?!?

7.2 with Thiel Power Points, twin Seaton Submersive F2's in Espresso. Krell Showcase Amp, Marantz Pre-Pro, Richard Grey Power, Control 4 Home Automation, lots of Blue Jean Cables, Oppo 103D, Sony DVD 777 400 Disc Changer and Samsung Plasma 64" 8500 all in a Salamander Synergy 247 in Walnut.

^ Sadly no one can tell you that yet since the M27 is not out.

I believe from my own experience that certain Class-D technologies have made huge leaps in quality of reproduction. Sadly Class-D have had a bad rep but I think much of that might be unjustified these days. But as always it depends on your personal taste and preferences. My current Primare A30.7 amp is an in-house Primare solution that sounds amazingly powerful, lively and transparent but with a Class-A 'character' of sorts. Not harsh, not bright, just well-balanced.

I reckon you'll have to wait and simply compare the M27 and/or M25 with your current Krell and decide.

M25 is a Class AB amp. A Class A multichannel power amplifier would be rare rare thing, and a monster. Without something like the Krell's iBias system to dynamically adjust the bias current, that is. E.g. the recently mentioned Parasound A51 is also just a Class AB amp, but the bias current (8 W) for pure Class A operation is somewhat higher than usual for Class AB designs. And FYI, if the M25 where to be class A amp, it would heat your room with at least 2.2 kW (160 W * 7 * 2 [because class A is max. 50% efficient]).

Anyway, the M25 is somewhat warm sounding amp (like Parasound), so one might expect the M27 to be a little bit more forward/sharper/edgier product. (Of course when purely speculatively considering.)

^^^^

I think that the total input power to the M25 would be 2.2 kW and the room heating load would be half of that with the energy sent to the speakers as being the other half assuming 50% efficiency.

Still 1.1 kW is still a pretty good heating load as if on for one hour then that's almost 0.3 ton of air conditioner load. Fortunately I don't think any multichannel amp runs all channels loaded ever as I can't think of anything I've seen in my HT that drives all channels to max simultaneously.

The 2.2 kW was just something off-the-cuff. And the heating load being in the regular case when the speakers are generally only driven by very few Watts.

I've seen mention of a Sept. 1, 2014 release date for the M17 and M27 in a few of the online blogs. Anyone heard if it may hit this month as there is still nothing new on the website?

I just got a response back from NAD that they began shipping the M17 and 27 to the U.S. two weeks ago. My local dealer hasn't received their demo units yet but I'll put a deposit down to get on the list. Can't wait.

^^ Not sure, but I pinged Saturday Audio Exchange, which is local for me, and they have their M22 (two channel version of the M27) set up in one of their rooms, and got a demo version of the M27 in a few days ago. I'm going to swing by there with some demo material either tomorrow night or Saturday. Does anybody have any specific questions I should look into beyond the "when will it be available" kind?

Stuart, take a photo of the internals, if they'll let you. This will tell us definitively if they're using Hypex UcD or nCore modules.

I'll ask nicely if I can do a photo, but I very much doubt they'll let me. More likely they'll tell me they'll ask their NAD rep what Hypex module is being used, but there's no harm in trying.

I hear you, though you'd be amazed at what I've gotten dealers to do, when asked nicely.

What's the over/under they'll ultimately refer back to the white paper upthread (8/3)? It IS called NAD and NCore, and refers to both new Masters Series amps. You're quite a cynic, Ken...

My local dealer says he just recieved an M17 and M27 and will be displaying them starting next week.

He said the M17 processor does NOT have Audyssey MultEQ XT32 like most of us hoped for, even assumed.
NAD have refused to answer my many inquiries on this topic.

Still cannot for the life of me understand why they stick to subpar XT and not the latest XT32. Stupid. Real stupid. Bet they'll keep excusing this by saying "...oh, but there might be an MDC module with XT32 in the future". Right - like there was for the M15!

For this blunder alone the M17 processor is a joke!
