Glad I found this forum - Here is the deal:

Purchased a nice TV from Costco and they had a deal on a couple

of 5.1 surround sound systems...purchased one from "BOSE" that has

5 mini speakers and a big subwoofer...it came with a Pioneer VSX-822K

receiver.

Everything has been great with the exception that I cannot get the rear

speakers to work.  I have them plugged in the SURR BACK/FRONT HEIGHT

ports and yes, I have gone to the main info screen and played around a little

with it but havent been able to generate any sounds, even the test tones through

them.

In searching the manual I am a bit confused because I noticed several references

to the possibility? of needing an additional amplifier.

{from the manual: "Connect the PRE OUT SURR BACK/FRONT HEIGHT outputs

of the unit and additional amplifier to add a surround back or front height speaker."

OR - am I an idiot and didnt hook it up correctly...I am seeing now that MAYBE I

should have plugged the speakers directly into the subwoofer panel in the rear?

Please, anyone with some knowledge of this let me know what to do from their

experience....Thanks so much.

You have 5 pairs of speaker terminals there to connect the 5 speakers to.

You seem to be trying to connect speakers to the "height" RCA jacks, which are not designed to connect speakers to; that does not work.

Connect your 5 speakers to the front, center, and surround speaker binding posts provided.

(If the speaker cables have RCA jacks on the amplifier ends, cut them off and discard them and connect the stripped bare wires to the binding posts)

By connecting the "height" RCA jacks to an additional 2-channel amplifier and two more speakers you would add two more channels and have a 7.1 system,
but there is no need to do this.

he's right, the surround back, front height are for 7.1 setups not 5.1.

You need to use the "surround" terminals not surround back.

usually bose satellites need to be connected to the bass module. Which model do you have?
