Image from AVCeasar-

Just saw the details listed here with a European January 2015 release date (US maybe sooner?)-

http://www.hdfever.fr/2014/06/06/denon-avr-x7200w/

It looks like the Atmos 3D Audio could come via firmware update down the track and not immediatly on release if I'm reading that correctly?

13.2 Pre outs smile.gif

Also will the upcoming new Denon Pre/Pro be the only model to have THX certification?

Good find! Link has info on the x4100 and x5200, which also have 13.2 pre-outs. But 1499 euros for the x4100! Not cheap!

Yes according to posts on this forum and this post over on Audioholics-

I was at AXPONA and the DM (Marantz/Denon) guys said that the new pre/pro should be announced towards the end of the year, but will not be available until 2015..

Guess we shall see and hopefully it is a Denon Pre/Pro and not just a Marantz one.

I wonder how the speaker layout will need to be for Atmos and DTS -MDA Home Theater use?

Hi,

What is very interesting in the picture above is the Height 1, Height 2 and Wide outputs.

Does this mean that for Dolby Atmos and Auro 3D, in a HT context, no VOG speakers will be need? With speakers positionned à la DTS Neo X and the addition of Wides?

I just hope that is a Denon Pre/Pro coming and not just another Marantz one, and hope that it even remotely comes close to what the AVP-A1HDA3D was in build quality, updates, and connections on the back.

RE: "13.2 Pre outs"

I see 11.2 capability on AVR itself & in the subsequent post's picture - it shows 11.1 in speaker config.

Also, due to this industry's dismal track record, I would never again buy anything that touts itself as being
"ready", "capable" "compatible", "future proof", "upgradable" or has any other potential vaporware possibility....

Spizz, same here. But if up to the build quality of the AVP, then we should expect prices north of $5K for that preamp.

My guess is they will base the replacement for the Marantz 8801 on the core platform of the x7200, but with upgraded analog sections + balanced pre-outs. Priced roughly the same as the 8801.
Then in a year or two, we *might* see the AVP replacement show up once all the HDMI 2.x, 4K video and object audio are sorted out so that the new statement piece can have a 7 to 10 year life-span like the AVP has been enjoying.

While I love my AVP, this object audio stuff is a dream come true for me (I even wired my ceiling for audio and power 14 years ago when I built the HT), so I might sucumb to temptation and get the new Marantz pre w/Atmos in Q1 2015. Then if the new AVP comes out in 2016/17, upgrade to that in 2017.

Jonathan

Damn, I thought there were going to be announcements in September (CEDIA), not actual product releases.

Now, where are the titles on Blu-ray.

Just as a counter point, Denon provided 2 or 3 updates for its Flagship AVP-A1HD, the last of which was never promised or mentioned as a possibility when the unit was released but they provided it nonethless (a paid hardware upgrade which is now sold out).

After buying the original Star Wars Trilogy on VHS, and the complete 6 movie Saga on DVD, I decided to forgo purchasing the BD edition . . . but I might consider reversing that position if The Mouse reissues a remixed "immersive audio" soundtrack version...?! biggrin.gif

So, what's the over/under on Denon offering a firmware update to the AVR-4520CI to support Dolby Atmos? Since the 4520 can support up to 11.2, it seems like it might be possible. And big feature upgrades aren't completely unheard of for anything other than the flagship processor -- case in point: the AVR-3808CI, for which you could upgrade to Audyssey Dynamic Volume and Dynamic EQ for $100. It seems like the 4520 should have the processing horsepower to support Atmos, what with its multiple 32-bit processors, etc...

I know, I know, it's a pipe dream...

No firmware upgrades to enable the capabilities.

Not at liberty to elaborate.

Hopefully CEDIA will have info on the AVR-X9200 too as that is the unit I will be likely more interested in. I hope it comes out when the 7200 does but, I can wait a little longer if needed.

Someone in the know here talked about it last fall.......and they had to remove it. I believe there is supposed to be and X9200 at some point and will wait.....I don't think discussing it should be restricted at this point as the other units mentioned were the 5200 and 7200.

The X9200 was supposed to be in the $5000 range ........... like the AVR-5308CI.

I guess if the 4520/8801 can't be Atmos enabled as you have eluded, it would be good if they offered the ability to reassign wide to rear height and the updated DTS Neo X to map to this config, could be a nice compromise

ProLogic IIx did an amazing job at upmixing 5.1 to 7.1 with rear surrounds. I hope there will be a new and effective algorithm to upmix the standard 5.1 to 13.2. This will work with all DVD and BD movies.
