There are two levels of 4k. The best version with hdmi 2.0 is just being released at the lower levels. Your budget models are a few months away. Do you need the 2013 model's right now with hdmi 1.4? They will not be upgradable to 4k @60 fps. Denon 4520 and Yamaha 3030 are both strong picks.

I'm not sure what I need I just bought a sony 4k projector and want to run it through a processor or receiver. So I don't know if a 2013 model with him 1.4 will work or not. The yamaha and denon you suggested are they the new models with 2.0?

If you are watching movies you should be good with the 2013 (hdmi 1.4) models I mentioned. That is only 24 or 30 frames per second. The problem comes when regular tv is in 4k. Broadcast tv is 60hz. Only hdmi 2.0 can do that. The 2014 models will be 3040 for Yamaha and 5200/7200 for denon. Several months away on those.

That is sarcasm, right? The XMC-1 has been coming soon for how many years now?

4K 60hz Broadcast TV is years down the road. I would not worry about it right now.

You said processor...so I take that as not a receiver as in processor with built in amps.

$2k budget for a processor does not leave you with really anything. The Yamaha CX-A5000 is right around
your budget and thats it as far as I can think of right now.

There are many receivers in your budget though and some have pre-amp outs too.

Mikes Stuff
McIntosh MC207 Amps.........................DarbyVision Darblet
Marantz AV8801 Processor.................Da-Lite Screen
Klipsch Reference Series 7.2................Panasonic BluRay BDT500
Epson Pro 6010 Projector.....................Sony Playstation used for SACD and BluRay

OK I decided that I want to do a receiver instead of a processor and amp. What would be a good receiver with hdmi 2.0 and I have raised my budget to $3k. Thanks

None have been released yet and very few even announced yet. Join us. We are all sitting around the campfire waiting. A few low end models are out. Not even close to what you want.

my vote would be for Denon X4000. You get all the features you will ever need and you can find them for a great price right now. If you really want HDMI 2.0, wait till it's released (end of summer I think) and get the X4100 I believe it is the replacement for the X4000 with HDMI 2.0.

In regards to 4K tv broadcast, is this even close to being remotely close? HD TV broadcast typically is still only 720p. 75% of channels on satellite are still SD. By the time 4k is mainstream will typical cable/satellite tv even be around? Going to be all streamed by then I think.

Personally, I would not be purchasing any 4k anything until the spec has at least been officially finalized. I realize you bought a Sony 4k projector. You might (I say might, not will) regret that in the near future. I will not be doing any upgrades to any video components until 4k is finalized. Then I can decide if I want to early adopt the tech or not.
