Bought new 4k Tv.. Need some help please.

I just purchased a Samsung 65" HU9000 4k TV. I currently have a Onkyo HT-S894 receiver which does have hdmi but its now about 7 years old. I am not very audio/video savvy but i see the new receivers out have 4K hdmi pass through. Do I need a new receiver now to benefit from the 4k? Will my Current receiver still work? Thanks a lot.

You need more than that. You also need some sort of 4K source and I'm not aware of any being available yet. I recommend you watch 1080 for a while until the marketplace catches up.

If the Netflix source is your TV, you only need to pass the audio to the AVR via either HDMI(ARC) or simply connecting an optical cable from the TV to the AVR.

Thanks... Another question... I have my ps3 connected to my av receiver. Now that i have a 3D television. If I play a 3D blu ray movie through the ps3, Will it work even though my AV Receiver isn't a 3D Receiver? Thanks again for the help guys.

For a PS3 3D game at 720p perhaps, but not for a full 1080p 3D movie, no. You'll have to connect the HDMI to the TV with optical from the PS3 to the receiver.

If all this is confusing on how to setup different audio and video then it would be your best bet to just upgrade your receiver. If your aren't looking for all the bells and whistles a 4k pass through AVR with a couple comparable hdmi inputs won't run you very much. I say this since you obviously bought the tv without much research on how it works with other components, and that "kinda" implies you can afford the newer AVR.

On a side note I hope you sit really really close to the tv or you prolly won't be noticing any difference even with 4k content.
