I have high frequency loss. Starting around 1k dropping like a rock. Everything below 1-2k is above normal. I can hear normal conversation very good, I just miss the highs, tinkles bells etc. In the old days all amps had a breakout between the pre and power amp where one could put an equalizer. Today I do not see any, or an amp with a decent equalizer built in. I currently use Turtle beach wireless earphones which I can set the equlizer to my likes, but there heavy and hot and.
Does anyone know of an amp that would meet my needs or another solution. (I do not need hearing aids).
Yes I have found that out. I also see almost everyone in any of these forums deplores equalizers. What do people do that have hearing loss?
Many of us in the Army during Vietnam (before ear plugs) have high freq hearing loss, do even people with high freq loss still think the only way an amp should work is flat and pure? I can't even find any sections on any audio forum for people without perfect hearing. There are plenty of speaker forums but a speaker is subjective to ones hearing curve, since its your ears that process any sound, they are more important to any speakers. I used to find on a blind test I chose speakers that to the demonstrator were tinny. They fit my hearing better.
Most AVR's have what you need. I would just recommend staying away from those that use Audyssey. Yamaha, Pioneer and others allow you to make unlimited manual adjustments after the auto calibration. That will allow you to boost the treble to your heart's (or ear's) content. Even the Audyssey equipped units have some manual trim but they are really best for auto calibration.
Thanks I will look for one, Problem is I do not see in the specs that any have advanced MCACC. I hear Yahama is one with a graphic equlizer but I cant find it listed in their data. Maybe Ill call them Monday.
Yes I seee those 2 listed with advanced MCACC. However the 1124 can be had for under $150 used and shipped, Vrs almost $600 for the vsx 1124, Is there anyplace where I can find the freq bands available to be adjusted?
I am reading about the vsx-1021 and it has the 9 band and can be bought used excellent condition for under $150 but I read the video processing is not so great. Although I use my 521 to just pass through video on hdmi so I do not think that will be a problem. I also could care less with the AirPlay, I do not have any Apple devices only android. Do you know of any other candidates.
The vsx 1021 has a lower level anchor bay video processor, if possible try to look for a vsx 1121 it has the Marvell processor and is an all around better receiver of that generation, they probably are not that much more expensive on the used market
How does this receiver compare with the -sony str dn840 as far as equalization?
I know the sony is newer and has wifi and Bluetooth built in. Can you control it with an android device or only Apple? Does it brodcast bluetooth to other devices?
