Best Configuration for Music out of your receiver?

Hi guys ...

So I tested around 5 different receivers ... Yamaha, Marantz, Denon, Onkyo ... etc ... I settled on Denon 4311 mainly for it's sound during movies and regular cable TV ... music was never it's strong suite (maybe it's my fault for not configuring it right).

For music best receiver I had was Marantz 7005 i believe.

On my Denon I tried Pure direct (doesn't include Sub), Stereo (not great), Standard (decent but not great), All Channels (ehh, Yamaha does better job with that).

Anyway .,.... I am still hoping that the problem is simply in the set up.
You guys are much more knowledgeable about this.
What would you suggest trying??? other than going back to Marantz. :-)

Denon AVR 4311ci, Ascend Sierra-1 NrT, Ascend HTM-200 (surrounds), Rythmik F12, Panasonic TH50PX60U, Samsung BD ES6000, Denon DVD-2910 SACD/DVDa, Monster HTS 5100 MKI, Monster Z2 Biwire, Logitech Harmony One, Sennheiser HD600, Schiit Modi/Vali

I did. With Audyssey ON it sounds better then when it's off but still .. the way Marantz made my speakers sound for music ,,, it felt like nothing can sound better

Pure Audio is the setting that sounds the best for 2-channel coming out of my Onk 717. It has the best punch, ride cymbals are more clear, kick drum is more alive, snare has a better "crack!"

Yea ... for movies and regular TV it was decent but on some heavy sounding movies it was missing that extra Umph.

Yea ... pure Audio for Denon 4311 does not include the sub. I think Marantz was the only one that gave you an option to have Pure Audio (L/R) and Pure Audio (L/R/Sub).

You are right, Pure Audio sounds probably best or second best but i like to have my sub involved in music. Give me that extra deep sound.

To bring in my sub, I use Neo-6 music, or Neo-6 Cinema. And you are right, it DOES change the sound. Some of the old 2-channel music just doesn't sound the best when converting to 5.1.

Get a minidsp and run in stereo mode and manually peq until you have it just the way you like it. You can have a different setting in minidsp for movies as well. Problem solved
