Yamaha RX-A740 (or 730) - AV OUT | How does it work?

Hi all,

I have a customer that just purchased a Yamaha RX-A740. I know you need to go to the A840 to get preamp outputs, but I thought we could use the AV OUT RCA jacks to feed a SONOS CONNECT transmitter.

I tried different things for about an hour and could not detect any audio coming out of these RCAs. I tried processing ON and OFF. There are no settings for it, and all the manual says about it is that it is to be used to hook up to recording devices.

The receiver has a ZONE 2 but you cannot route audio from video or HDMI inputs to it.

My backup plan is to enable HDMI audio and use an audio de-embedder.

Any idea?

Just like the zone 2 limitation, you can only send analog inputs to the AV OUT jacks. Yes, that pretty much makes AV OUT useless these days.

The 840 (but not the 740) has Party Mode, which allows any source (even HDMI) to play in all zones at the same time (although it does get downmixed to stereo).

Yup. Should have upgraded to the 840.
