Playstation 3 firmware corrupts AVR HDMI board?

I have a 3 year old ONKYO TX-NR5008 and the HDMI board has been replaced once per year for 3 years.

The local (authorized) service tech says having the game consoles hooked up via HDMI sends data/signals to the board even when consoles are off. He thinks this is causing it.

I know from reading the thread on this unit that there have been several HDMI problems.

Is there any truth to game consoles corrupting HDMI boards on AVR's??
Now that mine is repaired for the 3rd time, I'm getting rid of it.

If what the tech said was true, there would be a heck of a lot of PS3 owners complaining on this... Utter nonsense...

Technically, it is true, but not just game consoles, but every source device sends power to the sink to determine connection status and read the EDID information. It's a part of the spec and devices are designed for it.

So no, it's not the problem.
