Dialogue enhancement?

I have an older yamaha with noDialogue enhancement. I tried a Marantz SR5008 and it had a really good dialogue enhancement function. When I tried it I could really hear the dialogue in tv and films perfectly!

However one key function for me is Zone 2 and Marantz like most receivers can just do Analog sources while yamaha can through Party mode play all sources in Zone 2. Even though I loved the sound of the Marantz I have to lean towards the Yamaha Z840 given it has this zone 2 feature since I almost listen more to Zone 2 (outdoors) than zone 1.

Will the Yamaha Dialogue enhancement feature give me as good of a sound when it comes to Dialogue as the Marantz?

Really appreciate an response to this!

Thanks

The SR5008 has ALL ZONE STEREO mode which will pass the same HDMI source playing in the main zone to Zone 2 as well. If you upgrade to the SR6008, you can also pass an independent HDMI, optical, coax digital 2.0 source to Zone 2 than what is playing in the main zone. The SR6008 also adds a Zone 2 HDMI monitor output which can be connected to another TV or AVR.

Yamaha has dialog adjust and lift but keep the 5008. They can't call it party mode because yamaha had it first and denon/Marantz already had
another function called party. Zone2 can play all usb, tuner, analog and network inputs like airplay without interfering with the main zone outputting 5.1.

My Lexicon has this feature, it's interesting to play around with it. But if you have problems with hearing people speak I think getting higher quality center may be in order. Never needed to increase it myself to hear people speak.

According to Marantz customer service it can not do any optical to Zone 2. Even Airplay will not work to zone 2 unless it is played in zone 1 as well.
Is this correct?
I would really like to be able to play either network content (NAS) or Airplay in zone 2 which is where my outdoor speakers are set up without having my family listen to the same music indoors.
The "Partymode" seem to require same volume in all zones at once.
I do not have to listen to anything indoors as long as I can listen to my music outdoors in zone 2.

Is there any way around this? Enable party mode and doing mute in zone 1 for instance etc?

Thanks

As I noted in my previous post, you would have to upgrade to the SR6008 to pass optical PCM 2.0 to Zone 2. On any 2013 D&M networking model to include the SR5008, although Airplay must first be started in the main zone (thus interrupting the current main zone source), once Airplay is selected in Zone 2, you can then change back to the original source in the main zone or turn the main zone OFF if you prefer (new for the 2013 models as prior year models must leave the main zone ON). This "hijacking" of the main zone only applies to Airplay. All other network sources can simply be selected for Zone 2 without any main zone interruption.

I should have said the yamaha 840 will play all those sources discrete to zone2. A few models below that will also. Except airplay(party mode only). For some reason Marantz only offers something besides analog inputs for zone2 farther up the line. Yamaha 677/740 and above has zone2 network & usb. 777/840 add party mode for digital audio(restricted) to zone2.

What about 5009 the 2014 model does it do what 6008 allows?

Also for Yamaha from what I read party mode means that you have will automatically have the same sound level in both zones. Is that correct?
no way to mute zone 1?

Not as far as HDMI/digital to Zone 2 no, rather only the SR6009 and higher can.

Yamaha party mode allows zone1 on mute with zone2 volume still active. The only weakness is airplay can't play discrete to zone2 on any model. Which is stupid by yamaha. And digital discrete to zone2 starts at 2040 model.

The only problem with Marantz/denon is nowhere in the manual can I find a statement on network/usb capabilities for zone2. And jd pretty much always refer to digital capabilities only. Once you have usb or network digital isn't a big deal. I even went to post #1 in the official threads where the specs are listed. Zone2 usb/airplay etc. is never mentioned. What page of any manual calls this out?

The Marantz 5009 manual doesn't specify Airplay but Crutchfield site shows Airplay as only possible in "party mode"

Crutchfield is known to post incorrect or incomplete specs from time to time, this apparently being one of them. All network sources and USB can be passed independently to Zone 2 on D&M models in addition to also being able to use ALL ZONE STEREO (aka Party mode).

1. Note A2040/A3040 is HDMI/digital/analog to Zone 2 only (ie only analog to Zone 3) whereas D&M Zone 2/3 models (X4000/X4100W/SR7008/SR7009 and higher) offer HDMI/digital/analog to Zone 2 and digital/analog to Zone 3.

2. An oversight although this has been a feature on D&M models for the past 10 years not to mention that most brands have been able to do this for years as well (ie. pass on board sources to Zone 2) which is why it's "implied" and generally only the external source connections are referenced. However, I have been listing it in the Zone 2 section of my Post #3 of the annual Official Denon threads for the past few years.

I assume 1605 is no different in this respect than the other D&M models?

Darn this multizone stuff is complicated. Thanks.

I found it in post 3/#12. Wouldn't be a big deal, but I can't find zone2 usb/network mentioned in any recent denon/Marantz manual. I have searched using every keyword I can think of. And for the last several months I never saw you mention it. After 10 years it probably does get old. A bunch of new users come here asking and I don't want to mislead/error. Pick a manual and give me a page number or magic word to search with please. I try to be fair so I recently started mentioning that yamaha has a global crossover on most models and no model has airplay independent to zone2.

Yes it was driving me nuts and I think I misstated some stuff because of it. I'll just refer to your faq's with the word limitation for now on.
Most beginners don't know about this capability so I would list it in the features of all networked receivers area.
