apartment guide

So I'm not new to the audio game but rather the processor market.

I wish to have my setup consist of a pre/processor outputting to a amp.

I'd like to get this done for $600.

Now it almost will have to be a 5.1 setup do to the room configuration. Reasons for wanting a pre/processor instead of a receiver is that id rather drive more power to the speakers. if someone can suggest ideas that eliminate the pre, I'll seriously look at those options.

Ideal setup for audio. optical out from tv to dac (Topping d2), then to pre finally to amp.

open to all suggestions.

How would the UMC-200 fair in my setup?

Do you already have a 5 channel power amplifier???

The umc-200 is $600, which is your entire budget.

You still need 5 channels of power for your speakers.

Why not an AVR...plenty of good choices for $600.

There just isn't that great a difference between a preamp processor and an AVR unless you have hard to drive speakers. Since you labeled your thread 'apartment guide' I'm guessing you live in one. In which case an AVR is probably loud enough to warrant an eviction notice.

One question - do you expect to buy everything for $600 or is that just for a preamp processor? You didn't list any of your current gear.

When all else fails - RTFM!

I have a dac currently and two Sony floor speakers from 1990's

Don't have amp, but $600 is my budget for the whole avr setup/speakers. Now would a stereo dac pair with an avr without converting the input sound to stereo or only accepting stereo input.

Any AVR will be able to do what your DAC can do
With no loss of quality. It becomes a redundant piece
Of equipment that is not needed/required.

I don't see how it can be done for $600. You need a sub. You need 3 more speakers. And a 5 channel amp, or AVR.

Even used that seems tough

"But this one goes up to 11"

So I don't need a dac, could a dac possibly benefit the system?

Ok so I'm going to go with an avr. Wanting one that doesn't compress the audio in any manor

DAC won't benefit your system. It is usually
Your source (TV) that compress audio not AVR.
